View Full Version : Can you put SRT 8 Springs on an 05 RT ???

I read that the SRT sits lower than the RT, do the springs transfer and how much of a drop is it? I want to lower my RT but not TOO Low
What of the aftermarket springs lowers the Magnum the least?
From what I've read the springs will work on the RT and I believe someone said they were quoted around 80 bucks a spring so pretty comparable with aftermarket. It lowers the car about a half inch all around.

Anybody else think this might be a good idea?

I think it would be nuts to spend $320 to lower the car 1/2 inch. You wouldn't even notice that. Everything I read points to Eibachs as the answer.

I would be interested, if the springs had a different rate and not just a 1/2" drop. The springs out there that lower 1.5-2" are just too much for the roads I drive on. A little taller tire and a 1/2" drop might be just right for me and the look I want.

Wouldn't that be basically the same look you have now? Why would you want a taller tire?

I previously posted this idea. I called a Dodge parts guy, and he thought it would work. I too would like to drop my Mag a bit, and also feel that the Eibachs are just too low. I dont want to have to worry about every bump and parking spot. Dropping her as much as the Eibachs do, will probably lead to premature death of your stock shocks(I said probably guys).
In reponce to magunSXT, the half inch of lowering would do wonders for handeling, and they are performance orientated(stock on the SRT8) and I think the minimal drop would also look good too.
I would suspect "SteveRT" wants the taller tire to better fill his wheel wells.
As soon as I I can justify the expense to the "Great keeper of the checkbook"(my lovely wife) I will do this. Probably wont be for a while, but please post info and pics if you do this, as will I.

The amount it would lower the car would be subtle, but the stiffness and therefore the handling would be greatly enhanced. It would cost a lot less then Eibachs and you wouldn't scrape bottom so much.

evrything i have read and all the people i talk to at car shows say eibach is definately the answer. Plus with eibach you have a choice of how low you want to go. I just picked up their pro springs. It's a 1.3 front 1.4 rear drop. their sport springs are a 1.8 front 1.9 rear. It also depends on the size of wheels and tires you are putting on the car.

the problem that many cant get past and keep bringing up eibach is the fact that some may not want to really lower the car, as much as they want to improve handling...
think of it, that you can get the handling of the eibach springs, without having to steer clear of speed bumps...

and prolly save a few bucks as well.

I called Dodge parts a while back and they told me $88/corner. That amounts to $352, actually more than the Eibachs, but worth it to me. Cant wait till someone does this.
Was driving to work this morning at around 80 MPH, decided to have a bit of fun, punched it....Holy SH&T this thing is fast!

What about the Mopar springs? Don't they lower only one inch?

Yeah, the Mopars are a 1" drop.
I seriously considered stiffer springs and lowering about 1 " for track racing.
However, upon looking at the front end geometry with its Mercede's extreme caster, no aftermarket shocks to go with the springs, and the complete lack of a camber adjustment kit, I decided to leave well enough alone.
I have a standing order with a wrecker buddy that when a wrecked SRT8 shows up in the online inventory - to go ahead and scavenge certain components for me (this is standard racing gearhead procedure).

If you put the Elibach springs on do you have to put new shocks on?

What about the Magnum SRT-8 shocks?
If they are set up to work with the shorter springs, I wonder if they would work with the other aftermarket springs as well (Eibach, Mopar, etc)? Maybe they would get rid of the Eibach 'bounce'...
Anyone know how much they are?

1/2" of drop will definitely be noticeable. I've dropped a few cars, and it doesn't take much to be noticed. A few weeks ago, a shop dropped the back of my '33 Ford 1/8" when they were working in my rear suspension, thinking I wouldn't notice it. It was the first thing I saw.
Dropping 1.8 and 1.9" will make the Mag look slammed. 1/2" will give a little crouchier look and should tighten the ride.

What about putting 1/2" drops on the fronts to give it a racked look, what do you think it would do to the handling?
RTracer

The racked look would definetely look nice, but I would be afraid of her nose diving under heavy corner braking.

Can't wait till somebody puts the SRT springs on and we we get some feedback on any handling improvements , this would be the #1 reason to install these. The 1/2" drop I think would just give it a better look.

Anybody have part numbers for SRT springs yet?

I agree, the 1/2" drop would be just right for me. Not too low (I have a hard enough time getting out of her as tall as I am) but just right to give her better handling and a more aggressive look.

I just got a VIN # for an SRT8 and I will be getting the part #s and the prices for the shocks and the springs so watch for another post from me about this the beginning of the week. I have read that the shocks on the SRT8 are Bilstiens in the front and Sach shocks in the back does anyone know if the SRT8 comes with Novimats in the rear?
Clutch-n-Throttle

They only come with the Sach's in the the rear. Dodge does not recommend that you tow any thing with the SRT. They are not equiped with the Novimats. I don't think the towing option is offered. Someone correct me if Im wrong.

I hope you haven't ordered the gears, yet. The AWD's rear diff is a different size (smaller) than the RWD's. The gears are not interchangable. Sorry...

Thanks Stringer I did not know that. I will keep watching for the SRT diff and gears to show up in the parts program then
