It has been an ordeal to finally get my new replacement filter and cleaning kit! We had emailed (well at least I had) and the response was horrible. It took at least a month to get the thing in the mail, very poor email response and no call backs! I don't know how they stay in business nowadays with everyone on the web.
Anyway, the filter and cleaning kit finally got here and I got excited, until I opened the filter package...The filter that they sent me was a 'Monster'! I got pretty upset thinking that after all this hassle just to get the order, that they had sent me the wrong filter...Here it is...on the right side...HUGE....

The old one on the left has been in the car for about 14 months...I know...I know...
Anyway, I got to really looking at it and the pipe opening was the same..Got me to thinking that this was some kind of new upgraded filter that might come with it if you buy it new today...I bought mine back 14 months ago and it came with the little dude on the left...
I loosened the bolts and started to see if it would fit...low and behold it did!

Its a little tight but other than that she is in!:pepper:

So was this a mistake? or just how they come now?

Looks like a mistake I have seen pics of the AFE but never with that huge of a filter

The thing fits though...you don't think it will cause problems or be an issue do you?

No as long as it isn't rubbing you should be fine the bigger the filter the better I think but is it perfectly sealed to the tube?

Yep, seems to be. The opening and collar matched perfectly. I was more worried about the overall length and it just not fitting into the area. It's cinched up tight just like the old one. It does sound better at WOT.....

Well maybe it is the new model and I jut hadn't noticed how big the filter was on that one! Most people like everything about the AFE but the Airaid has a bigger filter. Looks like you got the best of both! lol

Yeah I have the AFE and my filter is like your old one. You only have to clean them every 30,000 miles so you were still good.

No that's not right at all, contact like that will mar the cars paint and the filter will distort in time.

How much did the replacement filter run you?

Wow, that is a monster! I'm waiting on the replacement tube and urethane coupler from them... they should've arrived already, maybe I need to get ahold of them again.

My plan is still to clean the old one and have it ready to swap once this one gets around to being cleaned, or in your scenario, starts to distort. I'll have to watch it, I guess and can now change them out as I quick as I want...:beerchug: Best of both worlds!

You may want to, if they haven't emailed you a confirmation/tracking number...they haven't process it...
good luck...if I hadn't given them my credit card info, I would have gone elsewhere. I don't understand their thinking of losing sales like this...:banghead:

I'd have to look at the charges but for this filter and the cleaning kit it was like right at $80.00. I didn't think that was too bad...

Two posters on the 'other' forum verified that they had purchased this CAI within the last 6 months and they recieved the same filter. So now this thread can RIP.....

Have the part# from it so I won't have to order it from them? I still haven't received my stuff yet so I'll call and check on Tuesday.

Holy thread resurrection batman! Just wondering if you could check the afe part number on that larger filter? It's time for me to swap them and I wanted to order one instead of just cleaning the smaller one again. My no-rub tube they sent a few months ago needed dremeling and has been sitting around for awhile. I put Mush to work yesterday on a couple things and he took care of that for me so he could have the original tube & coupler, just add a filter (he'll have to clean ) and he'll be good to go. Those things are tough, he broke 2 cutting wheels on that plastic...lol... :thumbs_u:

Well.
There aren't any part numbers on the filter?! The only numbers on it are the 5 1/2 for the opening...
I don't have the shipping paperwork either....Maybe they can figure it out from the pic's above?
Sorry...:(

No worries, thanks! I can give them a call. I found the 5 1/2" on the backside edge with the filter and clamp removed and also ran across a circle with an afe logo and it had 24-91031 really small on the top and saw they make the Pro 5R and the Pro Dry S options in that part number...
"Pro Dry S Air Filter: Offers convenience. Oil-free 2 layer synthetic media, easy to clean, high flow washable & reusable filter with 99.4% filtration efficiency.
Pro 5R Filter: Offers performance. Oiled 5-Layer progressive cotton gauze media, high flow, washable & reusable with 98.9% filtration efficiency. "
Hmm...

So Mush and I have researched and measured filters and he ended up calling AFE since we couldn't find this larger one. Their tech support said that large filter was the wrong one, but it does have the part number stamped in the circle on the inlet side, it's just very tiny.
Funny they sent a wrong one that fit? We were thinking they just replaced the part number with a larger filter but that tech said it wasn't so. He also said he could figure out which part number it is by the dimensions if you couldn't find a part number.
Sooooo.... is someone gonna have to distract you while we pull it at the next meet, lol... or would you mind taking a look again next time you have it off and see what the part number is stamped in the tiny circle when you have it off again? Thanks!!! :not_worth

Um...think you have an extra 0 in that number...You should clean and re-oil the filter every oil change. As soon as the filter isnt blue...fix it. I mean...if you put 30K miles on a filter without cleaning it...you're probably starving your car of clean air...These arent boxed units...they get all the dirt and grime off the road and the oil makes it stick even more.

Alright, on the topside it says AFE [Magnum - SPORT] -
On the bottom side its got the 5 1/2 " marking and......
there is also a small stamp........
what does it say......
afe - 24-91018 Whoooooooooooo!!!
I hope that is it....
Its actually become a pain to remove this since I now have to unbolt the filter box from the car and pull up a little on it to remove due to its MASSIVE size!!!
No, the real issue is now that when I pull up on it without unhooking it from the throttle body, the damn sensor is now right on top of my BRAND NEW SATIN BT CATCH CAN!!
Damned if you do, damned if you don't!

Whoo hooo!!!! Thanks!!!! Good karma coming your way, we owe ya a beer for pulling it! Those number are hard to read in the little stamp. Also, I can barely get the small filter on and off without loosening the bolts so I knew that large one would be a pain...
Looks like it's made to breathe alright....

Thanks again, it fit perfect when turned sideways and looks round from the top. :thumbs_u:
I just unclipped the power steering res & finagled that filter in there pretty easily. It takes up the whole airbox now & definately draws air easier judging from the sound.
