Transmission shudder and noise

I bought my 06 Mag R/T AWD about 6 months ago with 50,000 Km on the clock. I am now about 500Km away from the end of the basic 60,000KM warranty. (I do have the extended warranty to 80k and power train internals to 160K) So I took it in to have the seat heater repaired and for them to have a second go at the trans problem before the 60,000Km limit. The first time they reflashed the TCM and basically said there were no problems detected. I was getting a shudder that ranges from mild to moderate under light throttle anywhere above 60Km/H, this was accompanied by a whining/buzzing noise (again ranging fron mild to moderate). The last time they said they knew about the "O"ring issue but had never heard of the shudder/noise condition. This time however I printed off a copy of the TSB provided by FNKY here on this forum. I highlited the symptoms section on the TSB and gave it to the service advisor. Surprise surprise, they called me this afternoon and informed me they have to keep the car as they have finally ordered a torque converter for it. Now hopefully they have fixed the seat heater as well!! I plan to call back in the morning to confirm that "NEW" fluid will be used as per the TSB and to ask him to make sure the job is looked after properly. I have been a mechanic for over 25 years so you know I will have the car up on a hoist the day after a major job like that was completed! Doing it right the first time will just save me a return trip, and them alot of agravation.

glad you're getting it fixed. TC shudder can be pretty annoying and the heat it causes, pretty destructive.

Dealer used to get so pissed with me bringing in TSB's. Quit arguing with me finally and did the work. Beans to Fnky

I do the same thing,I bring in the TSBs when I go to the dealer,this way that cant say,we cant find any problem.Its work so far for years.

I had a 81 Dodge Mirada that had a torque converter that would shudder. I took it to a local transmission shop and the guy said he could rebuild my TC and tranny but I didn't need that yet. He told me to put limited slip differential additive in with my tranny fluid. After about 1 mile down the road with the additive in place the car ran smooth as glass. I have yet to rebuild the TC and that has been 7 years since I started using the limited slip additive. Wonder if something like that would work in our ars?

These are some great designed trans, they just suffer a few quality control issues. But as persnickety as they seem, I'd be pretty cautious about additives of ANY kind, not just limited slip stuff.

My last car a 95 Mark VIII lincoln was notorious for TC shudder at low speeds under light throttle. Usually, changing the transmission fluid would eliminate the shudder. It did for mine at around 50k miles. At 113k miles when I traded it, it was doing fine.

Well, got her back today. Drove home and all seems well, the seat heater was working, however, that was normal once the car warmed up (I picked it up right after it was road tested). We'll see if it still works in the morning. As for the transmission, it seems fine and it appears as if the shudder is gone. I can still feel that the TQ clutch hangs in momentarily on light acceleration however the shudder is gone. I've been a mechanic for alot of years so I tend to notice things that the average driver may not and sometimes THAT can be the problem. So far so good. Popped the hood and found a couple of hoses left disconnected, so I put them back on, now I will definately get the car on my hoist tomorrow to give it a once over! The one side benefit is that part of that TSB involves flushing out the transmission and coolers and installing a new filter and fluid. The car has 60,000 Km on it so I planned to do it once the weather warmed up(Dodge reccomends changing the fluid at around 100,000 Km), now my transmission service has been done AND it was paid for by DODGE ....BONUS.

My car had the shudder, I had the dealer do BG flush and update the software for my early build 05, I too had the TSB, they said it didnt apply i laughed, told them to right that on the bill,

so far the shudder is gone except when i have my superchip loaded
so i removed it

Mine made the shudder. Two transmissions and a month without a car it seems ok. Awesome!

I'm on my third torque converter.. 06 AWD R/T.
Have bad driveline lash that I believe is the cause... Dealer still thinks its normal.

it looks like i may be heading the same direction with TC shudder - can you tell me the TSB related to this please? i have an 06 AWD rt with 85k km ( 50k Miles).
yesterday i was pulling the car up on chock blocks and has to check several time to be sure the e-brake was not on because it reved so high and did not move!

That is not a TC problem. The TC is strictly mechanical. You have a transmission issue.

Firetech.. we must have the same dealer... mine always used to leave hoses unplugged underneath the engine. Got so bad I stopped going.
