I'm rarely at a loss for words. When I feel strongly about something, I can spit it out without any effort at all. You've all seen me at my best and at my worst, when something's on my mind. This honor that you all just put on my head - I don't know what to do with it. When I was nominated for LXOM back in June, I couldn't help feeling a little bit out of place. I saw myself as just a friendly guy who likes to wrench on cars and hang out in parking lots with his pals. Since then, it's grown on me, but this is something else entirely.
When LXOY came around, and I realized what was happening, immediately I thought of guys like Cam, jaak, CoolVanilla, Meister, Hemi31, PowerWagon796, MattRobertson... are you kidding me? Those guys are true innovators - out there pushing the technology and getting it all sorted out for us. Then you've got last year's LXOY, fnkychkn - who can diagnose a fault or symptom better that anyone, and he does it tirelessly. It's really incredible to me to be included among these guys. And the group of nominees this year is so well rounded with personality and character. I'm more honored by this recognition than anything in my life, and I've had some great ones in my past.
I've already told the story of how I came to find this place and what made me stay. If you didn't hear it the first time around, it's Here (http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=116638). It's a good read, if I can be allowed to admit that I think so too - and where else can you see explicit shots of my Thing?
If 2007 was the year I found a community of friends that changed my life, then 2008 was the year I hit my own stride. Back in January of last year, I realized there wasn't a good write-up on how to pull your fascia off, and I kept seeing the question asked. I got frustrated by having done it, but not being able to explain it clearly when the question came up. So I think it was the third time I did it, I remembered to bring my camera out. That set something in motion that's still running strong. This year I've written eleven different step-by-step tutorials and reference threads, and enjoyed some good fact-finding threads. I've installed some 13 sets of Halos (plus my first set of rears this weekend); six sets of paddle shifters and harnesses; three pink shifter thingies; one SRT Brembo swap; one cam swap; pulled a couple sets of heads; helped with a couple of suspension swaps; did a couple grill swaps, tore through half a dozen intakes at the MFO, and did miscellaneous other projects that my good friends have come up with. All of it's been a pleasure, and most of it's detailed in my HEMI Registry thread (http://lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=61607).
Here's what I came to realize in looking back on this year. Those guys I mentioned up top - if they're the innovators, I guess I'm more of a clarifier - my strength lies in breaking it down and making it clear to folks who are feeling overwhelmed by what they're hearing, or to consolidate the important bits from far-flung threads and getting it all together in one place. And I enjoy answering questions thoroughly, if I happen to know the answers. I've said it elsewhere, but to me the most important criteria when I choose a member to vote for is their willingness to help. Being good at what you do is worth acknowledging, but what sets the prior LXOM's apart is their willingness to help. I don't have any modesty admitting that this is one thing I do well - because I enjoy doing it.
I went back and read through all the old LXOM threads in the past couple days - every one of them, back to back. I felt I owed it to them somehow, and at the same time, to me it was kinda like the note in the desk of the Oval Office: Wisdom from those who came before. I came across something in the very first one that made me sit up straight, like a bolt hit my spine. Andrew, MagnumFreak, in November of 2004 wrote:
"I don't care if the question has been asked a hundred times and you didn't do a search to see if it had been asked before - I will always try to answer the question like it was the first time it was asked."
That's IT! That's exactly how it should work, and though I never even recognized that tenet in my own head, I make that same commitment to this place. If I can use this honor as a pulpit, I'd encourage you all to do the same. Find your talents and share them. Participate without hesitation that you might be wrong, or someone smarter might be out there. Everyone has their own strengths, and the combination of these is what makes this place so unique.
…That and the friendships that have been formed. I wouldn't be nearly the happy guy I am, if I didn't have friends to share this with regularly, in person. To the crew in Arizona: you're the best friends I've ever had - individually and as a group. What we've got is worth more to me than any accolades that could ever be given. You know where you stand with me, and I know we'll be standing there together for many years. I've got such a flood of emotion welling up right now as I say this. You folks are everything.
I have a Christmas card from Nathan hanging up at work, that reads: "What do we live for, if not to make life less difficult for each other?" That's it precisely.
That's all I've got to say for now, but you know I'll be here tomorrow, and if I can help you in some way, big or small, please let me.
Take care of each other, and thank you for being there for me.
Just a couple pics for you:

Congrats, Mike!
The LXOM crowd is truly a great bunch, they're the ones that give this place many of its benefits. Not because they have an award, but because they do what they do to deserve that award. Choosing the LXOY is a monumental task - the best of the best.
Thank you to Mike and all the LXOM's for your contributions. I think that most of our cars are better off because the members read your words.

Let me see if I can prove her wrong. ^ Where to begin, how about simply saying Congrats to a very well deserving guy. ( No that won't do) Junior what you bring to the forums is exactly what I understand the LXOM and now the LXOY to be. You answer every question with the same attention to detail no matter how many times you've answered before. You have been there everytime someone has ever needed anything without thought of personal return. You are an exemplary example to all of how to treat those around you in all areas of life not just this little world we all share together.
You know how obsessive I've been about reading through this forum from the time it began, and I can only make this judgment based off of what I learned in print. Those that have come before you that have received this honor should be proud to now have you join there ranks. I've not had the privelage to meet those who you name in your write-up but I have read hours and hours worth of there posts, and I can tell you friend, you stand shoulder to shoulder with them all. I've had the honor to meet your parents and I'm no doubt sure they are proud of there son for the man your are. As I watched the Meister helicopter video ( for the 12th or 13th time) it's clear to see where your passion for automotive comes from. Best line ever, " Well I guess we out ran a helicopter" classic.
Mike I want you to know that I've had some great friends in my life and I count myself blessed to now count you as one of them. Congratulations again for a very deserving honor, you do yourself, your family, and the entire LX community proud.
(Damn I hate when she's right)

congrats Mike! Well deserved!
Thanks a lot Ryan! Glad you're around for me to learn from, and failing that, to steal pictures from! (That's one of Ryan's at the top of this thread, and one of his was at the top of the LXOM thread too - they're just too damned superior!)
Seriously, man - the impact you've had here, and the niche you've carved out for yourself - it's quite something.
You've earned every bit of recognition you're getting Mike. Like it or not :-). You're the best, buddy.
Thanks Matt, you know I could get all soft on ya, but nobody wants'ta see that. You're one of my very favorite people. Like it or not :-)
Mike, Now I really have nothing else to nominate you for?! lol
You are just the bestest. Congrats to you my friend.
Joyce, my favorite gal of another pal! And such a good friend in your own right, that tall guy notwithstanding! I've always loved your spirit shining through, from the first time we met. There's nobody out there like you.
Great write up!!
Thanks very much! I'm kinda glad I can't edit these posts, or I'd be up there rewording stuff and critiquing my sentence structure.

Congrats Mike, thanks for all the well written, and detailed write-ups, made life easier for me several times!
Glad to do it bud!
Way ta go, Mike! :beerchug:
Thanks Bill - I never mentioned this to you or anyone, but at the Shindig in 2007, when you walked up to me and introduced yourself: that to me was a huge honor - not to make too much of it, but that's really how it felt. You were one of those guys "up there" in my mind, and I'm glad to have gotten to know you and our often shared way of looking at things! What you say in one line is so often better than I can do in ten.
Congrats on the Honor, Mike. It is well deserved.
Cheers
Thank you sir!
Congrats!
Thanks for building this, our home, Anthony!
Thanks so much my friend - I don't know how I missed you for the time I did, but since I caught on to you, I've been a huge fan. You're another who has a way of breaking it down astutely. I love seeing your posts.
Congratulations...
Thanks man!
Congratz buddy!!! Your always helping a brother out!! You deserve it!!
I appreciate it!
congrats...
great write up..
Thanks Tom! You're another I remember all the way from my very first thread, chiming in to say hello. If anyone ever says that it doesn't matter, they're crazy.
*applause*
Great write-up, Mike!
Congrats!
Even though I am new here, it's guys like you that make me look forward to getting to know many on this forum. Keep up the good work!
Get to know as many as you can! So many great people here. Welcome aboard.
Mike, I am simply going to say congrats again my friend! (Because, you know that MillerTime will say enough later for the both of us. :blah: Yep, wait 'till he reads your write up....his reply just might be as wordy )
Thank you Kelly! Your enthusiasm for all of this is unbridled, and it was from the beginning, when you were some crazy person with a name that didn't make sense who was friends with someone that wasn't on the forums yet, but wanted to participate anyway! How times have changed! So glad to know you three.
Awesome Read Mike and CONGRATS!!
Your always a Phone call or text away with answers to my questions, lost count of how many times I've done that. I'm glad "badnanner" was a bit out of my price range back in Nov. '06 ! I was all over that thing when Kieth was selling it, but you got ahold of it and I found my Mango ;)
Thanks for being a Cool Car Nut and so helpfull to all of us Mr. Mike !
So when is the next BBQ at your place, BTW ?
Damian
April? Maybe not swimming weather yet... Thanks Damian for not buying the BADNANR from Tyler before I did. Would have been funny, I was looking for a Mango at the time...
Mike, there's only one reason why you're wearing the LXOY crown; it fits perfectly. your definitely a "giver". you share your time and knowledge freely and without expectation. that's what makes you a great member of these forums and someone i am proud to call friend. hope to meet again at springfest.
Pete. What can I say, man. Thanks for the words and the friendship! See you soon.
Mike,
Congratulations on the LXOY win. Well deserved. What everyone has said is true. We are better off here, because you are here. Keep up the good work.
Thanks old-timer! You were doing writeups before I knew what an LX was. Thanks for all you do, and all you bring to this place, Robert!
Congrats on the selection of LXOY, Mike. Certainly a well deserved title. :beerchug:
Great write up, too!
PS. Amanda and Barb send their congratulations, as well!
Thanks John and the JonzGals! I sometimes forget that I've never gotten to shake your hand yet - seems like that would've happened long ago. Here's to being here until that day comes, and I hope it's soon.
At a loss for words eh? Lol is right! Very well said Mike. You're a great guy and we are lucky to have you here in AZ as well as on this forum. Congrats!
Thanks Andrew! Glad to have you around!
All the best Mike

Thanks Joe, I appreciate you man.
Congrats Mike. What an inspiring write-up and it demonstrates again what an excellent communicator you are. I'm proud to have met you at Spring Fest these past two years. Thanks for all you do for this community. As others have said, the crown fits you well!
Thanks a lot, Greg - if there's a better example of the definition of good-natured, I don't know it. The film Sandra shot of you on the way home from Spring Fest 2007 is the visual demonstration of that nature shining through, and I count myself lucky to have gotten to know it in person too! Hope to do it again as soon as it can be.
u da man Mike ! Congrats !
Thanks gooey!
Mike, I can't thank you enough for all the help you have given me. You are a good friend and one helluva great guy. We in Arizona are very lucky to have you in our group!! Congrats again on LXOY...you so deserve it! :)
Thanks Chrissy - you know you've always been such a fixture here in my mind - so many of my memories of this time have you in them. Keep on being precisely you.
Congrats Mr Mike, You deserve it! This "Family" wouldn't be the same without Cha!!! I'm glad We have such a great Friend!
Thanks Taira - I'm so glad to have you to bounce things off of, and share the times with! You three are so good for me.
Congrats Mike! Excellent write up and very well deserved! :not_worth
Bill
Bill, Thank you brother!
(Damn I hate when she's right)
Todd, you're not gonna get me started buddy. You know where you stand with me, and I love you for being there.
I think I want to cry :D Congratz Junior! You are truly an asset to this forum.
Thanks a lot man, I appreciate it.
your a badass dude. Thanks for sharing all that and letting us know you a little more. U deserve this win. I am proud to know you.
Bart, I wasn't sure what to make of you before I met you - but once I did, it was clear - I'm really glad to have you around with us bud. You're a welcome addition to our little band of parking lot loiterers! Glad to have you on board!
Congrats Junior!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I appreciate it)
Congrats Mike on LXOY. You are such a great asset to our group and a wonderful person to. You always take time out of your day for anyone of us when we have an idea about what we want to do to our rides, and you always show us how to make it happen. We would like to thank you for everything that you do, and for your friendship. Your the best!!!!!
John and Dottie, thanks for your friendship and all that you do for us too! You folks are such solid fixtures that I can't even think what it would be like without you, and I hope not to ever have to find out! I love you guys.
Hyooge congratulations, Mike!!! Very well deserved. Just keep on keepin' on! ;)
Thanks Tam! I've been so glad to know you since those old MFOs long ago - you and Marc are so great together and little Maddie is such a beautiful little bundle. Hope to see you three in March.
