I have nearly gone through a set of Hoosiers 315/35/17s which now has about 22 runs up and down the 1/4 track. Overall I like the hook ability\quality of the tires amost as much as the M/T Biasply 26X11.50R17s.
The problem is with the Hoosiers 315/35/17 is that they are only 25 inch tall which is causing me to hit 4th gear a bit sooner then I really would like to be.
I am now looking at trying out the M&H RaceMaster 325/45/17s as they are a bit taller at 28 inchs.

They are a LOT taller and will take away a lot of gear. Should be interesting...

James I know on my 315s MTs they were almost rubbing the inner fender well so I am sure a 325 would do worse.
For the 28" tall try a 275/50/17 M&H...those are what I am going back to now that I have tried the 26"s and found with my car they just won't work well.

Yikes as they are already on the way.... I am also looking at the 295/45/17 M/T Radials which are 27.7 or as they state 28X11.50R17. Only problem with those are they are still hard to get...

*not a 300C but...
For what's it worth I have M&H 325/45/17's on 17x9's. Yes they are 28" tall but
more importantly they have a true 88" rollout (big ass tire). They hooked better than my
275/40/17's but cost me 3tenths & 3mph in 1/4.
I had to switch out my 3.90's for 4.10's to pick up that loss..

I spoke to MT on Wed regarding 295/45/17. They're caught up on production and fulfilling all
backorders (via distributors). I plan on getting a set since they're 27" tall and will fit a 17X9 rim.

Resurrecting an old thread as it is exactly the info for what I am looking for on Drag Radials.
Now that I am conistently running in the upper 12's ie. my most recent 4 back to back runs were all betwen 12.75 and 12.81 with my best so far to date of 12.75secs/113.1mph I am sure that I am being held back by traction.
It has been suggested that I look into Drag radials for my 2007 Charger SRT8.
I have read so much about the various options that I have become quite lost as to what to do.
Ran into a guy today at a Car show who had an SRT8 Charger with all the bolts on mods like I have + a cam.
I told him about my fruistrations as to what I should get for Drag radials and he showed me what he is running on his Charger.
He said to check out the 17" Drag Radial from "402 motoring.com" since 1) he really likes the M&H Racemaster's for their traction and 2) this place has a full package deal on Drag radial wheels and tires.
So I stumbled upon this post while researching what people thought about the M&H Racemaster's and was struck by the discussion of tire size.
402 motoring has all their products divided by the the kind of car you have and shows you their matching stuff.
Under Drag Radials for the LX Car section and the 6.1 SRT8 Hemi, they only list ONE tire along with various 'Tire and Wheel' package deals. That tire is the M&H 275/50R17 Race Master Drag Radial Tires.
This is different than any of the sizes I have read in this thread. Since this place supposedly shows you the best match I was wondering if anyone could weigh in with their opinions on this TIRE (M&H) as well as the SIZE (275/50R17)?
Thanks in advance.

Take my word for it, If you want the best E/T get the Hoosier 275-40-17. Anything taller on your car will run a higher E/T.
If you run the 275-50-17 instead you will run a .25 WORSE E/T then running 275-40-17.:)

Ran 25.5" M/T Street ET drag radials and got a best of 12.01 w/ 1.85 60'
Ran 26.5" M/T Street ET biasplys (cheater slicks) and got a best of 12.09 w/ 1.78 60'
Ran 28" Nitto 555r drag radials and got a best of 12.20 w/ 1.78 60'
About 2/10ths slower (25.5" vs. 28") at least
Oh yeah, DA was about the same on all runs.

Both of you have some really interesting information.
Prompted me to look at the Charger with it's stock tires.
1) Staggered Stock setup
IF you bought the car with the staggered setup (supposed to add a bit of understeeer) with the 255/45R20 in the rear, that would give you a tire height of (I am looking at Overall diamater in a tire size calculator) 29.03" in the Rear.
2) Non Staggered Stock setup (Most LX cars)
The fronts or the front&rears as most people buy the Charger without the staggered tire option with the Stock 245/45R20 tire gives you a Tire size of 28.68" in the rear
3) 'The best' handling tire for summer street tired
The hot setup for best handling particulary on curves are the Vredestein 275/40R20 tires(gives a neutral steering). This gives you a Tire Size of 28.66"
The Staggered setup adds a tad of Understeer so it gives you a bit of margin of error when handling curves fast.
When you learn how to drive this car properly around the cuurves , you want Neutral steering and when the factory tire wears out, you want to try and keep the speedo accurate but add almost a full inch to the 'Patch'.That is one of the reasons why the Vredestein 275/40R20 is popular and why I am using them.
It is interesting to see that from your E/T vs Tire size info, the Staggered setup, which cost more as a factory option, would actually give you SLOWER E/T's than the other 2 options I listed.

Thanks to both of you for this really useful info. I still can not make up up mind but at least I have data to work with.
I started this discussion because I was looking to eliminate tire spin at launch by going with Drag Radials but I am now learning a LOT about the effect of tire size on final gear ratio.
When I hit the end of the 1/4 mile marker, my car is in 3rd gear.
So I am looking at your suggested tires as well as that tire from 402 motoring.
I am currently running 20" Stock street tires at 28.66" Height. Best time is in my sig
The 275/50R17 that 402 Motoring recommends is 27.82" Height with a 3% faster speedo reading
Your recommended 275/40R17 is 25.66" Height and has a wopping 12% faster speedo reading.
This is why this gets tough for a non-dedicated race car. If I want to keep YOUR recommended drag radial on all summer, then I would be running with a really off speedo as well as the odometer.
According to the Tire size calculator, an Actual speed of 60 MPH would have a Speedmeter reading of 67 MPH.
Also it would be 725 Revs per mile vs 810 which I assume throws off the Odometer.
That times vs Size post that budoboy posted is VERY usefull data - thanks.
From your data, I see that Running the 1/4 with my 28.66" High Vredestein tires, which I just got 2 months ago, is nearly identical to what you showed with the NITTO's.
I understand that what is happening here with tire height is 'fiddling with' the final gear ratio but you still must get tire slippage at launch?
Any thoughts about keeping the Tire size at 27.8" (the 275/50R17 tire) but going WIDER for better traction?
Also, do you keep these on your cars all summer or swap them on/off for the track?
This Charger is NOT my daily driver car but on a really nice day, I like to drive it to work with the sun roof open. After all, that's what is so cool about these cars. They are fast as h** but are really nice riding luxury cars. Heated Leather seats in a race car:)

James MT 295/45/17, they should not be hard to get anymore

Ahh didn't realize how old this thread was
By your times it sounds like you don't have alot of mods so stick with the shorter tire like these guys say, James with his Stroker I would say MT 295/45/17

Yup got a set sitting at the dealership...I figured I would wait until the fall to try them out. I will stick with the M&H's through the summer. Specially now that I have the 3.55 gear .... I still have a set of 275/45/17s sitting in the garage. Those would totally mess me up if I use those with the 3.55's

I was looking at your signature where you have:
"Worlds first N/A stock motor LX Mopar 11sec.1/4mi. pass!
New best, 11.660@117.63 (11.773@117.30), 1.70 60ft. only mods- Airhammer, Corsa, Hi-flows, Diablo, DRs, Skinny's, And mucho weight reduction! "
I am curious how you got to times like that with such a minimal set of mods. How much does your car weigh now?
Do you have any Dyno results?
What LX car do you have?
My best so far is 12.75 and it apears as though I have more done to my SRT8 Charger than you. OTOH, I probably do have the heaviest Charger at the track cause I have all the bells and whistles including a Sunroof and I am 6'1 at 250lbs.
Never weighed my car but I have had it dyno tuned as seen in my signature.
I am looking at DR's because I am convinced that with almost 500 HP at the flywheel as opposed to the stock 425 HP, I am at the limit of traction with my Street Tires.
I am sure that I have a 12.5 sec car but I just can not get good 60' times. 1.92 is the best so far with that 12.75 time.
I had terrible traction at 26 PSI in the rear until I dropped them down to 20 PSI and now at least I am not going sideways when launching
Thanks

Kind of a complicated question. I've had 4 different drag tires on the car and three different rims so far. Please be more specific.

Sorry about that. I was looking at this post of yours that I have saved because it is a very succinct summary of DR's and I send it to to many folks whenever the question of 'what size' comes up. I stupidly assumed you knew what I was talking about.

The tire I am asking about is "25.5" M/T Street ET drag radials"
What is the size designation for this tire that YOU have used? eg. 275/40R17
Where did you get them and Do you know a place that sells these along with wheels as a package deal like 402motoring.com does?
What are you using now?
On a related note, Group A wheels is a new sponsor over at dodgeforumz.com and I emailed them because they do not list anything like a 275/40R17. Got a reply yesterday where they have a package deal of Toyo Proxes TQ in the 275/40R17 size.
Thanks

Get Mustang Cobra replica rims off e-bay. 5x114.3 bolt pattern (works fine without hubcentric rings). You do have to grind the center bore a little with a carbide bit on a power drill do get them to fit on the hub (not much, just enough). They are about $120/each I think in 17x9. They clear the rear brembos, weigh around 25 lbs. and there are a ton of drag tires that fit the 17x9 rim. I like either M/T street et drag radials in 275/40/17 (longer lasting than Hoosiers) or the Hoosier DOT drag radial in 275/40/17 (about 7 lbs. lighter per tire). Both hook good and are short enough (25.5-25.7") to give you a nice gearing advantage.

Hi Bud, Sorry I just saw this now, I don't know how I missed it, But anyway,
Car weight was a shade under 3,750lb, Maggie, Probably anything you can think to legally reduce weight was done!(If not let me know what I missed )
Car was never dynoed, I get to run in some of the best D.A. there is, The online HP calculator for my weight, e/t and mph reached 504 gross hp. (about 40hp above stock corrected gross hp. Due in large part to the D.A.
425hp is stock minus accessories, I removed the serp. belt too, gain 20hp.
The mail room kid at work was asking me today what I did to get those time's and I couldn't even remember all the little preparation's at the track, Ice~Cool motor, pull fuse 11, front skinney's, remove int. remove serp. belt, cai, back of corsa ex., racing seat, light weight battery, ect. ect. It's a bizzy day at the track! Good luck :)
