Does anybody know where the auto-dimming mirror wires into? I would like to wire it into the correct harness. Any ideas?

connector C205 at left A-pillar:
pin 2 \ black/light green wire \ ground \ goes to pin 2 of mirror.
pin 4 \ red/orange wire \ B+ feed \ goes to pin 1 of mirror.
pin 5 \ white/light green wire \ back-up lamp feed \ goes to pin 3 of mirror.

Hey Fkny, I just checked and I don't have a connector in the left a-pillar (driver side). There is a connector on the passenger side (actually the one I posted a pic of in my other thread) but the wire colors don't match up. Any ideas? Could that harness be left out?

your build configuration probably didn't include that harness.
i'll try to find you another source and post it here.

One more thing. Is there a pin for the B+ and ground?

The auto dim positive circuit (B+, actually fused ignition run start) is shared with the same circuit that feeds the Hazard/ESP switch. Just wire into the Red/Orange wire at the hazard switch. The ground, just run a wire to the existing ground behind the knee blocker on the I/P frame. As far as the correct connectors, forget it. I haven't been able to find one unless you buy the dash harness. My original auto-dim mirror install had the same problem you had, no connector on the L. A-Pillar. I bought two matching repair connectors and wired it in. I cut off the white connector for the A-Pillar harness that goes to the mirror and wired in one half, then the opposite went to the circuits I mentioned. I'll have to look up what connectors I ordered when I get home tonight, I'll see if I can upload the pictures I took of the install. They weren't great pictures, but they would help.

Ok. Besides the mirror, you need the harness that plugs into it that runs along the roof and down the left A-Pillar. Part # 5089050AB, $25.10 list. To wire it in, you have to cut off the white connector, and wire in one of the next 2 connectors to that harness. The other connector side will be the wiring to the places I listed before (Pictures will follow)
Part # 5013984AA, $31.70 list, Part # 5013988AA, $31.70 list. Dealer is free to set price, may be lower. They are both 6 way connectors, enough spaces for an auto dim harness. If However you want to add UConnect later, you will have to wire in a set of connectors with more spaces the same way, but you will also have to change the mirror harness, and again cut off the connector, and on the Jet adapter harness cut off the terminals to wire in the connector. There's two more wires in the basic Auto dim we didn't talk about yet, but we will later.

Here I have seperated the appropriate wire (Red/Orange) at the Hazard Switch connector. Cut the insulation and wire your fused run start wire to this (Wire color will be Black/Red on mirror harness)
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x294/Tbird100636/Picture057.jpg

Here is the finished connection. I twisted the wire I ran from the A-Pillar around the Red/Orange wire, soldered it, then taped it with electrical tape.

The ground wire is simple. Just use the existing ground on the I/P. This is the finished connection, note the crimp on terminal.

This is the connector you need to find just above the R. Kick panel, C200. It's a white connector, it has a lever lock, kind of hard to explain how to release it, it might have a red lock on the side you can't see, slide the red lock up, then squeeze the tab and move the lever upward and pull the connectors apart. If you can find the White/Light green wire on pin # 20 of the connector. Pin 19 is also White/Light Green, but don't use that wire. See diagram below.

The wire for Pin 20 of C200 is only on one side, it is a dedicated wire for the auto dim. Just cut the wire a couple inches back, run a wire from the L. A-Pillar area throught the center of the I/P to the C200 area, and wire it to the White/Light Green wire just cut off (not the half going to C200, the other half going onto the harness). It becomes Black/Tan on the mirror harness. Black/Light green on the mirror harness is ground.

Now on the connectors you will add, you have to pop the lock tabs out to insert the wires. On the blade side of the connector, you first remove the black lock on the back by carefully prying with a flat blade screwdriver. The remove the blue weather seal.
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x294/Tbird100636/Picture031-1.jpg

See the 6 holes, those are for the wires. The 2 smaller holes are where you insert a straight pick and push the red lock out so you can insert the wires. Insert the terminals through the black lock, through the blue seal, then into the connector until it snaps in and can't be pulled out. Repeat for the other wires.
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x294/Tbird100636/Picture032.jpg

After the wires are in, push the red lock back in.
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x294/Tbird100636/Picture036.jpg

Wire the wires you ran to the ground, hazard switch, and C200 to this. Note how you arranged the connector on a sheet of paper in case you have to diagnose later.

The opposite side connector will wire to the mirror harness. Make sure you wire it to match the other side. Insert a flat blade screwdriver through the connector as shown and push the blue lock out.
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x294/Tbird100636/Picture037.jpg

Note the blue lock is not flush with the terminal holes. Insert the terminals until they click in and can't be pulled out.
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x294/Tbird100636/Picture038.jpg

After adding the terminal push the blue lock back in.
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x294/Tbird100636/Picture040.jpg

Lock is now flush with terminals.

Wire to the mirror harness. You're probably wondering why there's five wires there. It's because the other 2 are for an Auto dim left outside mirror. The inside mirror controls it. But I don't plan on doing that upgrade (It's in the Knowledge Base how to do it.) so I just did the mirror harness side and not the opposite side. All of the wires were soldered and heat shrinked if accessible.
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x294/Tbird100636/Picture047.jpg

Tape up the wires after testing operation. Doesn't have to be totally encased, just so it is neatened up.

That's basically it, if you don't have a mirror yet, PM me, I have the one I took off when I added UConnect, we'll work out a price, I don't however have the mirror harness, the mirror harness Cleveland P-A-P sent me for UConnect had broken clips, so I cut out what I needed and added it to my auto dim only harness. The 6 way connectors I can't find. Let me know.

That is good info. Thanks for the time that you spent putting this together. This should be in the KB.
I already have the mirror. Now I just have to figure out if it's worth it to pay that much for the connectors.

If you want to be able to service it in a pinch, you can disconnect it. You could just cut the white connector off of the mirror harness and hardwire it but if something went wrong, you have no easy way of isolating the circuit, other than cutting the wires.

As far as KB, I will write a more detailed article for that, with more pictures.

So, I just started looking and found this thread. Our 05 MagRT has the autodim mirror already on the windshield - any guess what'd be involved in adding autodim to the driver door power/heated mirror? Is it plug and play?

I started a new thread, just in case...
