I actually just came from ND and MN. Didnt see as many LX's as I did in the summer when I was out there. They must be stored for the season. Stayed at the Sheraton in Bloomington.
What are the plans for the St. Paul M&G? I plan to attend this coming year with a modded LX!

Yeah, we don't usually plan for the SPA meeting until mid January, or later, to prevent ourselves from dying from the axiety of trying to figure out PP's newest secret mod... :Na_Na_Na_Na:

Yeah, we don't usually plan for the SPA meeting until mid January, or later,
we need to plan it earlier in may because travis (NVRDUN) is being transferred to vegas the last week in may. so it would be nice to have it sooner in the month so he can come and then get ready to move. i am thinking may 9th. that would be the second weekend of the month. just an idea being thrown out there.

I'd be down for any weekend, and it would be nice to have it eariler so Travis can enjoy a M&G with all of us one last time before being transferred. We just need some one to get things rolling...

Yes, the sooner we have a date the better. I am really having to convince my wife that we will be able to make it.
We have to pack a u-haul (2 days), have movers pack the rest (2 days to pack, 1 day to load), clean house to military standards (5) days, drive to Vegas following military rules (350 miles per day = 5 days) then throw in the 6 days of weekends and we start to run out of time.

The Minnesota Meet and Greet is a gathering of some of Minnesota's, Canada's, and the rest of the Great Lakes regions' finest LX AND LY builds and a general party for the great owners of these cars. There's food, fun, Mustang dyno runs, an after-party cruise and (too many) drinks back at the hotel to wrap things up
Here's a couple archived threads from the past couple of events. Get your reading glasses on! This could take a while. LOL

Yeah, I agree, but I actually talked to Scotty about it yesterday and he said "Yes, it's all ours for May 9th".
I also mentioned the possible "toe-stompin" this could represent but even Scotty doubted that Dodger will be involved this time.
Still though, just to make sure, I PM'd Dodger and asked his thoughts and asked for his "blessing?"
I haven't heard back from him yet so we'll see what he thinks of the whole thing when he does respond and find out if he wants to co-ordinate it.

What about door prizes n' stuff? An official list of people. Raffle? Dyno-run co-ordinator (Scotty?). Someone to secure a block of hotel rooms. Timeline planner. Etc.

I'll call the Embassy Suites tomorrow morning and see what it takes to block off a group of rooms for us out of towners and intowners who know better than to drink and drive.
What we really need is a few different threads going. Or some sign-ups within a single thread:
1) Those who want to cruise after the meet
2) Those who want to go straight back to the hotel after the meet
3) How many need a hotel room
4) What do we plan on eating/drinking at the shop and how do we fund it
So on and so forth
Also, it'd be nice to find a local guy willing to draw up a nice scenic cruise route that'll eventually either lead back to SPA or to Bloomington where the MOA Embassy is. It IS still there, right? LOL

Lat year Chef donated the food, thanks Chef! Scott does not charge for the use of his shop. He does pay each of his guys $100.00 to help with the dyno. We passed a hat and several LX'ers were more then generous, but more then a handful did not even have $5.00 to contribute for the cause. We were short, Scott pitched in. This year we should talk about an entrance fee.

Entrance fee sounds good, but I think we'll have to make a couple tiers for it. For example, those who are wishing to dyno pay a couple buck more than those who are just there to show/hang out.

Just got off the phone with the Embassy Suites. I'm waiting for a return call with pricing info.
I requested info for a minimum 10 rooms, (some singles, some doubles) and a meeting room. Just to see what the fees would be.
Also, I told her we would probably need rooms for Friday AND Saturday night. Of course all of this is gonna be changed multiple times down the road, but I want some initial figures at the least.
DRS06 RT
01-26-2009, 12:47 PM
I would say we need a fee for just food and a fee for those who wish to make a pass on the dyno. Everyone shouldn't have to pay for dyno time if their not running on it. I'd say $25 -$30 for a dyno run and $5-10 for just food. Even if the dyno run was $50 per car, you couldn't beat that price anywhere. Everyone pays food/ entrance fee and those who want dyno time pay that fee when they sign up for the dyno. I think we need to be fair to everyone, Scott and his mighty crew does a fantastic job and shouldn't be out anything for letting us come and play together for the day.
OK that's my two cents worth, I'll go back to sleep now :)

01-26-2009, 01:18 PM
Fellas...A lot more goes into getting the food then $5.00 a plate. Don't forget the drinks and ice for the coolers. The men to help on the dyno, sacrifice a Saturday, better be darn sure plenty of drivers want to dyno at $50.00 a car if they show up.
How's this:
$20.00 a car, $5.00 a head = $25.00 pay in advance, $30.00 a car day of show.
Dodger spend in excess of a grand to make this show happen the first time.
I can tell you that even at the fee I stated above, it will not be enough to cover expenses.

Alright fellas! The way it sits right now StPaulGuru has some things he really needs to attend to first so I'm gonna step it up and try to get this thing rolling.
I've already started some heavy behind the scenes planning along with help from Scotty, Pigpen, TehKing, Fondy, the Bloomington Embassy Suites and I'm still waiting to hear from "show" and Chefsam.
So far I've been working on the money aspect of things considering what Scotty has to pay his employees for the operation of the Mustang Dyno, Chefsam if he agrees to feed our hungry bellies, etc., etc.
Also, I'm looking at a couple options for our cruise to make it actually ENJOYABLE this time! As well as an option for those who'd much rather just get back to the hotel and do their own thing.
Remember, I don't live in Minnesota anymore, so ANY AND ALL offers of help, suggestions, comments, alterations, replies, additions, communications, ANYTHING is always greatly appreciated!! So please do so!

A Cruise is nice and something we should do. It is almost impossible to leave SPA as a group and stay together. Traffic and lights, leaving in the heart of Saint Paul will make it tough. I will call F1fan and see about sending everyone to a different spot to meet up at, then leave as a group from there. We could print out maps from SPA to the starting location, then have a map of the cruise route, then if we do get separated folks are not lost, and we could end the cruise at the Embassy, just a thought.

That was my thoughts as well Dan. I was hoping to have a crew that wants to cruise straight back to the hotel follow a designated leader. I call it a cruise so that those who don't know the way or area can easily get straight back there.
In the meantime, it would be nice to have a dedicated cruise route for those who want to get out a little and drive before either taking off or heading back to the hotel.
I'm thinking "show" may want to lead a crew straight back to the hotel and you (Dan) could lead the cruise?

Man, I'm glad to hear that Matt!!
We could really use someone to co-ordinate, and oversee the dyno runs! That was the coolest thing last year, and I know Scotty's guys run the Mustang Dyno, but we really need someone to get people signed up, in line and keep it moving!! Hopefully with little stall time in between runs.
I was thinking maybe an HP & torque drag for cars with similar setups? Maybe even a "biggest cajones" contest for all out bragging rights. Video taken of this is highly desireable too! You know, something to show everyone on the forums.
What's your thoughts? And more importantly, what do YOU want to do!?

Maybe we should go ahead with what I been hearing so far and run this as a tier payment setup?

Well how many pulls are they getting? i assume 2? If so $50 is about fair. Or do $25 a pull. Just an idea , either way thats cheap! I dunno about prime parking spot fee, more first come first serve as far as parking goes. Id say $20 a car would be ample to cover the costs of food and stuff. Spectators could just pay $10 a head kids 10 and under are free. Just ideas im no promoter lol
I'm thinkin' bout not even comin' this year. I admit in past years this has been a blast and I really enjoy kickin' it with you dudes, but does anyone remember how retarded it got last year? We had so many people walkin' off the street, jackin' food and sh*t, then you got the non-LX's that show up, then throw in that everyone dips out early and we didn't even get to the raffle. Sorry dudes, but I don't even wanna deal with that sh*t this year.
And oh yah, remember when everyone said they wanted FNLX and LXF stickers last year and I spent $200 some to get those printed up? Everyone said what they wanted and what they would pay. But then when it came time to collect, uh oh, where'd everybody go? (Except a few.) Then Reeg was stuck with a stack of stickers and no $.
Sorry for the rant my dudes, but it really might not be in the cards this year.

I am here,I found the thread :) and it only took 2 beers to read. I am glad everyone is excited about the meet.reading the posts here are my thoughts.
Cost,
As most of you know,I do not do this to make money.if I can get enough to pay my guys cash for helping out that would be great, the other stuff like water, soda & ice I can write off my taxes lol. As far as the food goes, chief sam said he would do it again this year, like last year he would be happy if he recieved enough money to cover the cost of the food.To show my thanks I installed a pair of exhaust cutouts on his Charger free of charge. I like the idea of $25 per car for the dyno,if we had 15 cars it would cover my employee cost, normally its $100 per hour. What about $10 per person, kids 12 & under free ,to cover the food cost? and who ever does not pay gets one of these:loser: on their forehead.
The cruise,
I think Cookz needs to get his hands on some of those flags that funeral homes put on cars, that way everyone stays together....even through red lights!!
The hotel, free boose, great memories-enough said. :beerchug:
Door prizes, I still have a couple of items that crazy luck made for last year, those tee shirts were great too.
The uninvited,
I am sorry about the "other mustang" and the camaro. The mustangs owner asked if he could park there while he looked at your cars-I said ok,like Bandits, it was a very nice mustang. The camaro owner was some nimrod that lives up the steet.
I hope it is ok for people to walk off the street to look at your cars,a bunch of tricked out cars is going to attract some attention, and as a business owner, I cannot tell those people to leave, because some are neighbors and customers. But I will try and keep them from taking free food and stuff.
We will have at least 1 car on the dyno running a ZEX NOS system ,and another with a Procharger, both are Charger R/t's. I am installing the procharger in 2 weeks , that car allready has headers and a HHP stage 2 cam ,we are hoping for 475-525 rwhp.

If it was 13 I'd just have to send him a picture! HAHAHAHA
I don't know that the one entrance idea is necessary, though. As we all know it may be an exclusive meet 'n greet but spectators aren't a bad thing and I believe we can easily keep out the univited cars and food snipers.

Wristbands for food is a great idea!
Since I obviously won't be bringing anything worth throwing on the dyno, I'd be willing to handle the sign up/money collecting for it.

Let's talk a little about the timing for the day:
I assume that we're starting again at 9am, but what time do we start our cruise? And where do we go? I'm thinking that if we were to start then, then we could start our cruise out of there at 3pm. Maybe we could start the dyno runs right away?
As for a location, it would be nice to find a place to take a good group shot. And maybe take a couple group shots at SPA from the roof before we leave. I know the Medina ballroom parking lot was plenty big, but it was a little distant, though. But if no one minds the drive, I sure don't either.
In terms of a cruise-to locale, where would everyone like to go? It would be nice to cruise to an agreed upon place, hang out for a few more minutes, and THEN head back to the hotel for the cool down and wrap-up. Maybe even give out any prizes or awards at the hotel if we have any.
Anyone up there in Minnesota got any ideas for a good cruise path?
Also, can those who plan on staying in the hotel for 1 or 2 nights start posting that? Should I open a new thread? I've already talked to the Bloomington Embassy Suites, but they need to know ABOUT how many will need a single or double room or both and do we want our own meeting room or not.

Just got off the phone again with the hotel about the rooms. They are sending a proposal, so I'll let more of the details be known once I get 'em.
So far, what I gathered is that we will not need a conference room, I will reserve space in the restaurant/bar area so that we are not too spread out this time like we were last year, executive corner suites ARE available and the reserved rooms can (but are not guaranteed to) surround it, manager's free drink special is from 5 - 7pm.
What I need is some actual numbers to start rolling in from us so we give the hotel some REAL figures.

I'd like to see how many rooms when can get people in (more bargaining room for a discount). I just recieved the initial proposal from the hotel, as I have been in contact with them for almost a complete 2 weeks. Haven't read it yet.

One important thing for the cruise to happen is the end time of our stay at SPA. Or more importantly, what time does the cruise start? SPA doesn't need to end for the cruise to begin, so I'm suggesting a cruise start time of 3pm for those who would like to go.
That would allow those who want to cruise a 2 hour window to hit the city and still get back to the hotel for the 5 - 7pm manager's free drink special.
What's everyone think?

Yeah, I'm gonna give her a bunch more calls in the coming months including today.
Mostly, I want to get a better rate out of her than just the INITIAL number.
But remember, this is just a mock-up and not the actual contract. Just an idea, so far.

Just talked to Jenna at the Embassy Suites about the rate and it's showing the accurate cost. The prices last year were cheaper all around but the hotels overall costs have went up. The numbers posted represent a $10.00 discount per room with our group rate.
TehKing
02-03-2009, 12:02 PM
Call her back and ask her if it is a discount, then why can you go to their website, reserve a room for two nights (the 8th and 9th) for two adults and be charged exactly the same as the group rate. ($129). That isn't an advance purchase rate either, it is the regular rack rate. (Advance purchase is showing $116 on the website.)
DA H.N.I.C.

These are for double rooms. No singles. And an executive suite.
Listed price in Bloomington's Airport locale (nearest the Mall of America) is $139 for a double and $159 for an executive corner suite.
The further you get away, the cheaper it gets

I KNOW we can get a better discount if we get more than 10 rooms (including an executive corner suite) reserved.
Now remember everyone. This is JUST A MOCK UP that includes 9 DOUBLE ROOMS - 1 EXECUTIVE CORNER suite and no added cost extras.
You can definitely get a single room which would make it cheaper. Just let it be known on the event sign up sheet and I will start sending out PM's this week to those interested.

:blah: I am going to bed now .
Here is a fair explanation of the costs.
Have we determined any of the associated costs yet? I've looked over most of the posts...but can't find anything on the cost except the early discussions????
We need 15 cars willing to commit to the dyno at $25.00 per car, $375.00, split between 3 of Scott's mechanics who show up on a Saturday to help us have a great time, is $125.00ea for the day. $10.00 a head for food, 12 and under free.
:beerchug: Instead of looking at it from a cost perspective, try this. Give Scott $800.00 for the use of his shop, beverages, and employees. :)...Give Chef Sam $800.00 for food, prep, and his employees. ..Both Scott and Chef will have more invested then $800.00 IMO.
$40.00 per car at 40 cars. I just went on a date to a movie, cost $40.00 to see a crappy 2 hour movie. Spent $80.00 to go on a dinner date, food stunk, service stunk, and the drinks were watered down. $40.00 per car, for an all day event, sounds cheap to me, and I know I will have a great time! :)

Well, the final cost we decide on will determine whether or not I join in the fun. I can swing the $ for gas to get there and $10~15 to enter, but that is it.
I spent 3 hours @ the unemployment office today - because I worked on contract basis, they are refusing to allow me to collect unemployment - the agency I worked thru said it'll take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months to get this straightened out. As for a new job, I called 5 places today to set something up and the position had already been filled and a few places said I was over or under qualified or there were 300+ people in line ahead of me... So it will ultimatly come down to how much this event will cost to enter, and I have a feeling I'm not the only one who sees it this way.

Do we have a list of those who will commit to the dyno? Throw my name on there I'll commit to that now. Everything else sounds great. Now we just need some warm weather!

I never said it will cost $40.00 a car, I only suggested it. I know in the past Dodger, F1, Bandit and I all pitched 100's for this event, there were also some others that were very generous. Dodger is gone, F1 works in the automotive industry, Bandit I'm not sure about, and I'm in the housing construction industry, this year, these folks will not be able to fund the event for everyone. I'm not comfortable with Scott donating his shop, but he has offered to help some, and my "uncomfortable feeling" is just mine, and I will survive no matter how this funding situation ends up. I just want to be as fair as we can to the folks who have so generously offered up services.
Maybe some folks will give less, and some can give more.
I'm done trying to set the price for this event. The event will happen, and I will be there, and it will be a gas, like always. The whole economy sucks for everyone in the bottom 99.
Maybe someone can open a pay pal account, and start accepting donations, it would be nice if we could get past the, "how much is this event going to cost?", it has been answered. The real question seems to be, how much can we come up with to help out the people hosting this event. I do not want to read where anyone who fell on to hard times doesn't show, because the price was to high, I will miss anyone who has been there before, and does not show. I think we have some new folks attending also, looking forward to meeting those folks.

Thanks Matt, looking forward to your cruise in a few weeks too! Sunday will be long day for me, going to try and get Monday off, but with all the lay-offs, the folks left are very busy. I can get the day off, but it does dump on a fellow cohort. Oh well nobody likes her anyway.............

My thoughts are still the same as far as cost:
$10 per person
$25 if you want to dyno your car
Ages 12 and under are free
ex: If you come to the event and have 2 adults and one baby in your car, and you want to dyno it also, the cost for you would be $45. That's $10 per adult (12 and under are free), plus $25 for the dyno cost.
The $10 covers the cost of food, and the $25 pays the dyno workers. No monies go to ANYONE else.
That's about as plain and simple as I can make it! LOL
If anyone agrees or disagrees, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll believe that's what the pricing structure will be.
For all those planning to attend, PLEASE remember that this is only to reimburse Scotty for having his workers come in and Chefsam for also having his workers come in. It's also a show of appreciation for this event.

:banana:Sounds good to me. Man I can't wait for this!!!:racing:
So it should be $20 bucks for 2 adults and a 2 year old since the Maggie is mostly stock she will not be going the dyno this year.

You stock guys should consider dyno'ing anyway, it is a great way to get a baseline to know exactly what future mods add to the car.
I'm collecting the cashola and singing people up onsite for the dyno. Just look for the jolly fat guy. ;)
Oh, and if you haven't, fill out this form:

This works for me.If it still does not work for everybody else we can forget about having Sam do the food.I am sure he would like to come see everybody and relax for a change, people can brown bag it,or there is a restaurant across the street.
Hey Cookz are you going to wear your klingon or Spock :spock: costume to the movie ?
