View Full Version : Wheel Adapters are they safe to use?
I have question abt wheel adapters, are they safe to use on the Lx's. If not, then why? Thanks

I wouldn't use an adapter, just not safe enough for me. People do use them, I just wouldn't do it. Heck, I don't even like wheel spacers.
Use at your own risk.

Using an adapter is much better then using just spacers. The biggest problem is adding an inch of adapter is adding alot of offset, can the wheel you want to put on the LX handle that much offset?

Using an adapter is much better then using just spacers.
That totally depends on the spacers. My spacers for SRT wheels is only 3MM so the hub ledge is still there. No way adapters would be better.
Those will also change the lugs down to 12mm, so you'll need new lugnuts as well.
I'm thinking of using adapters with a set of Porsche Cayenne wheels or VW Toureg wheels. They're 5x130 and have a centerbore of 71.5 (vs. our 71.3). They use ball seat studs, as opposed to our more common 60 degree tapered lugnuts. There are ball seat to 60 taper washers to solve this. I like some of the simple, unique designs for these vehicles (and the extra width), but i'm not quite sure if i'm ready for all the effort to get them on the car.
If ordering an adapter, be sure it's hubcentric (pic below)...

The adaptor below is NOT hubcentric (i'd avoid these)...
