Well after a couple months of customizing some stuff, the heart of my system is finally here. I have to say that its been very anxious waiting here and while I was in Colorado, but the time has come to spill some info on it. The turbo is a 1.10 A/R T6 Flange 85mm turbo and it weighs in at 50lbs! This thing alone with no juice should get me into the 9s pending a transmission. Now for some pics. Not great quality as its 8 pm here, so ill get some good ones up tomorrow instead.

Just want to give a shout out especially to Stu for his patience throughout this build and an early shout out to Steve at RDP. Its gonna be fun hitting 9s this year/next year. I may not be the first one that will get there, but I will have a blast trying for 1000hp w/o nitrous and them 9s.

Whoa. No question that's one purdy piece. But 9s on it alone? Woof. Good luck brah. I'lls be watching, that's fur sure.
That is a pretty piece of hardware.
However, I'm not sure you really understand what it is going to take to get your car into the 9's...... in that world, you're gonna be spending big bucks everywhere..... especially for a 4000#+ tank like an LX.
For starters..... let's discuss your plans for traction and a converter.... and assume that all of the tranny issues that fast guys today are dealing with have been resolved......
I'll be the healthy skeptic this time, since there are dozens of others that are keeping their mouths shut! :)

I know we have had our differences, but god damn that thing gets me horny.
Honestly, your 392 by itself should get you into the high 11's and with 20psi, I see no problem getting into the 9's. As long as the tranny holds up.
Good Luck, and I am not being sarcastic.

Well Ive had alot of differences on here. Im learning though that there are some things I know and ALOT more I dont so maybe being quiet on things and learning a bit isnt such a bad thing to do.
Ive got a pretty healthy 392 coming, so I was thinking along those same lines. I figured maybe a 12.0 on motor alone and then add 20psi to get to 9s. If I dont make it, I still have a 200-300 shot that will be sitting there but Im really not wanting to make a whole new fuel system for that...so with good air I hope to hit some low number this season. If the transmission breaks, so be it. It will make my TF 727 project go a little quicker. Heck, I will have until April so if it cant get done by then, it might be time for the upgraded NAG1 which should have many miles on it and many tests then.
Its odd how the goals have gone from realistic 160 dBs and a show car ones to 9s and breaking stuff with a 4000+lb vehicle.

9's is a pretty bold statement. I have no doubt that your setup will be capable of 9's, but it takes much more than the motor to make the run. Remember you have to get the 4000#+++ vehicle down the track along with it!

It will fit where my current one is. The good thing about the turbo is that its very small compared to other 85mm ones. I did my research for months and thats why I got it. Its actually the size of a T-76 with adding about an inch in diameter for the race cover. I just have to move the turbo up a little so it doesnt hit the differential, fab up a T6 flange where my current T4 one is, and possibly install some bigger piping.

Air-air FMIC with water/meth def. Just have to see what Steve can come up with when he arrives in November. Im really liking the PWR cores though right now.

Well... with your current setup, you CAN'T even consider converting to a solid rear axle... so looks like it's time to test how much an IRS car can put down and (hopefully) prove that they can handle big numbers...

No way is that going to fit in the same spot.......I know you think it's close but I think you will find your about to lose a ton of clearance under the car..........and oh are you going to have to modify the pipe diameters for that thing!

Very logical. However, I have to have the car emission tested every other year. Stock cats have to be present and with the way things are now, I can just spend an hour and transfer out my catless mids with the stockers.

That is a huge turbo! Have you considered going with a couple smaller twins? I've been working on putting together my own turbo project for my magnum. It's been put on hold for the moment. Just had a kid and in the process of buying a house. So I kinda have a lot going on. Kinda waiting for things to settle down. But I think you'd be safer with ground clearance with a couple smaller turbos. A couple t3/t4 50 trim turbos would give you more ground clearance and I know you could get 900hp and I sure you could get another 100hp out of them. Btw. At what rpm do you expect to start boosting? And have you considered going with a liquid to air intercooler? You'd be able to use an ice box to cool the air even more on race days so you could turn up the boost. I'd like to see someone hit 9's. Good luck!

I considered twin turbos, but I have a couple problems with them. They are expensive first of all. They also will take the place of my converters with the way I would have set it up, which I need for state inspections. I figured one huge turbo would make the same if not more power than two. The whole turbo thing is new so its really a matter of sink or swim.
I understand ground clearance being a problem, but thats why I got the UAS kit. During daily drives, I can raise the back up higher than stock height so that was a plus to me. I wanted them AFCOs, but I wasnt sure on how high the back went up over stock. I still dont know either...
Boosting should start pretty early in the rpm with the way the turbo is configured. I got the smaller of the turbos and went with a T6 on it instead of going with the biggest unit with a T4. The liquid-air intercooler wont work for me. Its a great concept, but Im building my car as a street car and not just a track car so I really need the air-air.

Interesting. Like yambra mentioned, with one big snail, at what rpm do you expect to be in full boost? Seems like it would take a while to spool up. Doesn't help that the snail is mounted way in the rear as well. I would think twin smaller one would be ideal. Regardless I can't wait to see this project up and running. Have you ever ran this car down the track with this current/ previous setup?

Full boost should be pretty early, but honestly I havent a clue exactly. 2000 maybe? If needed, I have the NX instaBOOST system here, but I plan on changing it to some 300 shot in the future. The car has never been down the track with the current turbo. It just sits in my garage now as it rains almost 5 times a week here. Prior to that, it was a PITA at WOT 75% of the time. Not sure if the water-meth was knocking out the spark or the tuning needed something a little extra, but I never got the chance to visit the track. It didnt help that my job sent me all over the place and even to Colorado for awhile so I never got the chance to datalog and do more datalogging. Oh well...

If you could get it to boost at around 2000rpm that would be pretty good..
I'm looking to get boost to come in between 2000-2500rpm. That's so I could drive around town mostly out of boost. Air-air ic is cool too, but a liquid to air is streetable too. Look at the superchargers. I'm not trying to change your mind or say one is better than the other, just saying that it would be streetable. So when does this turbo get to get installed?

Exactly my perspective. I enjoy getting major mpg when I am not in boost. Either intercooler would work, but for me air-air seems easiest. Turbo install is first week in November at the latest. If I get a little ambitious, I will do it before that.

With a turbo, where you come into boost is dependent on several factors, the system design, size of the turbine housing, size of the compressor housing, the compressor and turbine side wheels, etc.
It is also very load dependent as well. With the base system, I can run it as much as 4 or 5 grand and not go into boost with a very light foot and running auto stick. I can also load it up and get into boost as low as 1900 and full boost around 2300 or so.
Small turbo is going to spool very fast, but suffer on the high end. Large turbo is going to spool much higher in the rpm range yet carry through with no restriction to red line or beyond.
Just depends on what you want fast fun on the street, or all out top end. If it spools too fast, it can be a bear in daily driving. Size is almost always a compromise between low end and top end.

The big turbo is going in my Camaro and I am putting twins in the Dodge now. That big turbo would have been a huge hassle and I didnt think spool up at 2800 RPM was worth it.
Turbonetics is modifying a couple of their new TC70s for me now. I am really diggin the polished turbo cover look that the TC series has. Should be at RDP by Friday and car should be done in 3 weeks.
