Awesome! Thanks for the generosity! As far as campaigning, etc. - different conversation, but I don't think (and hope I'm right) this will step that up.

I am hoping that campaigning is not a concern.

Assuming everything is approved I will not be competing but I might just shoot a photo for fun

Besides, your car is far more evil spirited than mine (and most others for that matter), it would slaughter my silver mag just for the taste of V6 blood.

This is your competition, run with it ;)

Nah...I don't think I'll be a part of this now.

Nah...I don't think I'll be a part of this now.

Well, that makes me sad, and no sarcasm. It really does.

But you're a big boy and you can do whatever you want.

If you're bitter about the campaigning, you're not the only one. But unless you have a suggestion for how to curb it, we're kinda at an impasse. I won't make a rule that I can't enforce (i.e. no campaigning). I have always thought that it was unnecessary and tacky, but I have no way of eliminating it.

It's been discussed elsewhere and my thoughts have been expressed already (though by others who I happen to agree with), and I don't know what else to say about it.

I will bring it up when it comes time for this month's voting thread, and remind folks that campaigning leaves a bad taste in the mouth, so let's not do it. Beyond that, any suggestions for how to deal with it will be appreciated.

The point of this was to reward people for their creativity and step up fair competition. I voiced my opinions on the fairness of campaigning as well and hopefully it wont be a problem anymore. We will see. By no means did I expect that this would exclude people.

I just like taking pictures...and i have for a long while...and i'd wish people would judge the piece itself and not vote based on who it is - which club/region you're affiliated with...in that case a win like that is not worth anything...at least that's the way i look at it.
Where as i'm nowhere close to Ryan or some other pro shooters around here, i enjoy taking the pix and take time to go to different locations, angles, light, etc, get in trouble with the police just to get my best effort in.
No with the AECarbon being involved...i don't care about the gift. Hell, if i ever win one of those they can keep it or give it away to someone else - no use to me anyways.

...and now it's time to roll out to a few locations...

If the enjoyment is as you say, 'winning' or not is irrelevant, no?

Don't assume all of us are mindless enough to vote based on the campaigning. There are a few of us that actually like to look at the work, make up our own mind and enjoy the process. Take the pics for those guys. Speak to them thru your lens.

If I let myself be intimidated by guys like Ryan and Mike and you, or be led around by the campaigning of others, I never would made that I-wanna-play-too post, and I would have missed out on one hell of a hobby. Its because of talent and effort like yours E, that I got motivated. Lets help others get motivated too, by doin our thing. :beerchug:

You and I see it the same way. And it has gotten out of hand. Not just in the Photo Contest.

I feel the same way about the award too - I don't have the carbon itch, so I don't know what I'd do with it. I still haven't used my $50 Gift Certificate from HHP for the same reason (similar, anyway - I don't know what $50 will get me, and I don't have much to add that to for something larger).

I hope folks still see this contest for what it has always been: friendly competition amongst friends for nothing more than bragging rights, if that. If there's a gift certificate attached to it as well, it doesn't change the point of the thing.

That's more like it! :thumbs_u:

I'm not real sure what to say...

Why did this go from being a good thing to a bad thing? This is exactly what I was afraid of happening... more unnecessary drama. I brought this up to be generous and help out my fellow photo-shooting LX buddies. Is there business motivation...of course, we are releasing a bunch of new products that a lot of people are going to want, and what better way to help them afford it and contribute to our forum than the photo contest.

In regards to carbon, we understand that its not everyone's style and thats why all our parts are also offered in fiberglass and we also offer color matching and airbrushing service.

EDIT: The photo contest, just like LXOM should be judged on merit and not whoever you know or club affiliation. I am guilty of campaigning for LXOM for several members just because thats how its always been here since I've been a member (when in Rome...etc). But just recently have I come to realize that the photo contest is the same way, not necessarily based on the best photo (which is of course also matter of opinion). But has also become a popularity contest or club affiliation etc.

that is why i dont even bother to put in a pic for the contest. im not in any of the groups and only met a few other lx forums members so it would be a let down if i go out and take pics for the contest and dont get any votes. not everybody is like that but thats how i see it. :blah:

agreed :) you contribute a lot to these contests along with many others and if this prize somehow deters people from competing that was not my intention.

You shouldn't let that stop you. My husband and I love taking photos and have entered the last two months. We may not have gotten very many votes, but we will keep trying. It is fun to do, gets us out spending time together and gives us incentive to try harder the next month!

Over the last two months, we have realized that we really need to step up our photography, as there have been many more that were way better than ours. There really are many great entries and it is very hard to decide which one to choose. Especially when I like one particular shot and he likes another. :)

We have never met any of the entrants other than reading things that are posted by them, so it is not, in our case, a popularity contest and the prize won't change how we vote.

Keep on shooting and posting.......It will only make everyone that much better for the practice! :thumbs_u:
