Ooh that is not good. Glad nothing happened while you were driving.
Is that the rear or the front??

I went under the car to take care of a rattling exhaust issue... Put it up on ramps,... crawl under, and grabbed a handfull of metal sticking out of the inside edge of the tire!! OUCH!!! Needless to say, I pulled the wheels off the car and went back to stock tires. Yippie. Guess I can run down the 1/4 without the extra heavy Foose wheels.....Really changes the look/feel of the car.
Just REALLY odd the location of that wear-pattern. I looked in the wheel-well to see if there was any rubbing, and *I* didn't see anything.

Rear....
Rear....
That's what I thought. So here's what happens with our rear suspensions when your lower them. It automatically toes in. And what was happening IMO is it's scrubbing off the tire towards the inside and literally tore the inside edge off. You can see the wear starting from the outside working inwards.
BTW, I just completely ruined a brand new set of F1's in exactly this manner. Mine was more extreme then this, but identical.

Looks like an alignment issue to me. (Agreeing with CAM)

Yeah......that's what *I* figured. BUT! I didnt have this problem before. (when I had the 20's on there)...Plus it's been dropped for almost 2 years....Maybe something went 'south' on it? hhhhmmmm... Cant really remember when the last time I had the alignment done.... I guess it has been a while.

I just went out and looked...nothing seems out of the ordinary back there... Things seems straight...no missing bolts or bent arms...

yeah, those tires were well past due for the scrap pile. adding the alignment, and horsepower, and presto. there goes a tire...
When I ran the stock bushes, even though I had a fair amount of (-) camber. My wear was pretty good. But the negative camber ended up giving me other acceleration issues so I decided to install the offset bushes. Well that cleared up my camber isssue and the other problem I was having. But I had the toe way off. I knew I did, but didn't think it was all that bad. Man, was I way fricking wrong. I ruined a complete set of F1's dealing with it all within a couple thousand miles. It could be your traction arm bushes and upper control arm bushes are wipped out.
EDIT: I forgot to add something. Under acceleration, the rear squats and this causes the geometry to toe in worse. So even if you haven't been spinning the tires but have been doing very hard launchs, it'll wear them out sooner. So that little blurd about the cam causing the problem is not really that far off. :)

When I had the Teins installed it dropped the car a good 2" I had the Pedders offset camber bushing kit "I think thats what it's called" Alignments perfect now toe and camber.

I think that you would be a good candidate for a few Pedders bushings. Allowed me to finally get perfect alignment and take all the slop out of my suspension.

I'm sorry I can't tell, is that the inside of the tire?
I was going to get my tires rotated and was told they couldn't, because the rear tires were worse than the fronts. I was shocked when I saw how bad the inside of the rear tires were worn. Bad, very bad.
Do I need more than an alignment to fix this?

two things
#1 don't drive on tires that look like that!
#2 it's called camber, set it on your next set of tires

Lucky... I had a rear tire blow at 75 on the highway a few years back on easter. I was driving a S10 Blazer, all I can say is it made me trust performance tires alot more than I would have.... It went, it shook and I pulled over 2 lanes on to the shoulder, at that speed I figure maybe a 1/4 mile or so.... When I looked there was nothing on the rim but the side walls.... no rim damage

Why would anyone be driving on tires that are so worn out? That's why I ask if it was on the inside of the tire. Mine were bad on the inside and without being up on a hoist I wouldn't have known about the tire wear.

That's how my front tires looked before I promptly removed them.. The outside still had about 1/4" of tread left too.. Darn extreme negative camber..

well for starters the problem was you had pirelli tires lol. I'd go toyo or nitto. toyo being first. My goodyears are wearing very fast on the middles are you guys saying there is a fix for this. If so where's a link I know you said negative camber kit where do I get this thanks?

I have made it a practice to take my tires out of service when they get down to on 10-20% of tread life. I was told, and believe it to be very true, that 80% of the failures occur at 20 or less tread life.

How much was the car lowered?????? I'm getting ready to install Eibach's Pro kit on my Maggie w/ 20" wheels. Will I need the offset bushing too? My understanding is that I won't until it gets to a 2" drop or more. NOW I'm nervous & jerky! What has been your experience? If I do I'd rather do it all at once!

I have seen this wear front and rear. Have you been rotating them as well?
Wha you are are 2 concerns
1. excess negative cambers
2. Excess to and/or toe change. I think it is more toe change than toe itself, bu wold have to feel the tire. If the tire feels alittle lumpy, then to change is also a concern.
I send that you have some hotchkiss suspension. Is that just sway bars?
I have seen this more on vehicles that have been lowered. Lowering the vehicle can add some serious negative cambers. In fact, just accelerating, adds, at a minimum, -.5 degrees of negative camber. So investigating your issues requires looking for 2 potenital reasons. Also if you have not been rotating faithfully, then having some playful burnouts will add to the negative tire where as well.
toe change is being caused by either excess looseness or excess suspension travel, or both. But something is moving. I would assume you have some lowering springs. So assuming you want to continue using them, then getting one of the camber adjusters, be it Pedders, or any other one that you feel comfortable with. Also take a peak at all your bushings in the back end, and take a close look at the front xmember bushings for tearing.
I have seen this wear more on the front tires than the rear. If these were front tires, I would tell you to take a very close look at the front inner-outer tie rod ends, ball joints, and also a very close look at the front radius rod bushings. Also look at the upper control arm bushings to see if any of the bushings look like the bolt is not in the center. The upper bushings are not as prone to tearing as the front radius rod, but they can.
The excess toe change could also be a result of just putting in drop springs without updating shocks.
Also, dropping the vehicle, without doing a toe reset, will cause toe to potentially get out of spec as well
Hope this helps

Yea...I have the Hotchkis sways AND springs....They've been on there a while too.
I Ccertainly did NOT realise the wear on the INSIDE edge of the tire. As you can see in the pics that the outside seems to have about 3/8th of an inch left in the tread pattern.
Maybe a local vendor is having a group buy to correct this issue... HINT to BMC!

Is anybody here suggesting that just adding Hotchkis sways to an 05 Mag RT will cause this kind of uneven tire wear or is a lowering spring kit like the KW1 needed to cause this? ...

NO NO NO!! I've also added different springs. (hotchkis) that dropped the car this low.

Now wait a minute.... If/when you chew up the tires from all that hard cornering you are gonna be doing  ...dont blame ME!
Trust me.... You are gonna REALLY enjoy those sway bars! When Charg-Um and I first test drove my car, both of us jumped out of the car grinning from ear to ear! Then he actually thought he was gonna get me out of the car to help install his! LOL!!! - Yes, these were installed THAT long ago...

Yep, that's why I just posted about this on my accountants 2007 300 SRT. These wide rear tires are difficult to notice the inside edges are worn down!
Damn glad you found it before you were on the side of the road or worse!
And I am recommending Toyo Proxes plu 4's, cheap, sticky, and durable!

Heeeey Pedders..... Bump steer kit...and something for the rear to help with this ugliness??
Not sure what you are asking me. We do have a reasonably priced, fully functional, proven repair kit for bump steer for the LX. It is approx $80. A much better value than the $189 one that is coming out from another vedor who claims they are the only true bump steer correction kit. this kit is easy to install. If you need a description of the process, just let me know.
Now in terms of your inner tire wear, besides the bump steer, which is increased by lowering the vehicle, several things you should think about.
1. You mentioned you put drop springs in but did not mention shocks. Many poeple have reported problems with shocks when doing this. You may wnat to consider new shocks and struts
2. But for align issues, Pedders offers upper control arm bushings for the front and for the rear, that makes all 4 corners fully alignable.
Here are the p/n for the parts I am talking about:
1. EP2113 LX Bump Steer Correction Kit $81.56
2. EP6570 LX Front Upper Control Arm Bush Adjustable Camber $273.93
3. EP7277 LX Rear Camber link $165.20
These parts are readilly available and you can get them with free shipping and no sales tax
Does this answer your question? If not, just ask
thanks
