Yup. My dealer has two of the 6 speeds in D status. They will call me in when they arrive. I am going for a test drive. hehe

Yep, very interested in a manual tranny for my Mag.. probably be some time before a retrofit kit will be available, especially since the TCM will have to be cracked I am sure, but hey, it WILL happen, at one time we couldnt even put in different rear gears and now look at us!

I'm convinced it's already possible, nobody wants to up the coin though.

it's possible converting to a 727.. I'd rather have the 6 speed than the 727 and a gear vendors overdrive

^ Dave, no difference, either way you're getting the computers to ignore the trans. 727 would be on a manual valve body.

that is true... but 727 imo would require a lot more custom work. We priced it out very recently and it just wasn't anywhere near justified. hence going with the nag1 again instead.
I look forward to seeing what comes from the challenger having a manual

What issues with the rear end..like half shafts breaking or what?

Dave - You've probably had more conversations about it than I have. Isn't there already a bell housing to mate the 727 to the Hemi block? The trans mounting plate would probably have to be from-scratch, but hopefully that's not too difficult, depends on the mounting points on the new trans.
Regardless, all I know is I want a 6-speed for the sake of fun. In my opinion, that's what a muscle car oughtta be. That's part of what made the cool cars cool when I was growing up. Big V8 + roots blower + 6-speed manual = hella good time, I don't care what it puts down at the track.

the TR6060 used in the challenger has remote shifter cables, so that they can run through the same hole in the firewall as the auto shifter. the clutch pedal uses the same master cylinder resevoir, just needs a hanger, and a second hole in the firewall. floor pans have a raised section for clearance (as well as being 4 inches shorter). the master tech mentioned a couple of floor bracings as well. (subframe connectors, and transverse brace under the rear seat.) i'll post the master tech to the knowledge base later.

Yeah the limited slip and axles would be a good upgrade...

The 727 requires custom mounting plates. Along with custom shifter, linkage, and probably work to the tunnel and possibly even the console.
Also requires a custom driveshaft and the bell housing you spoke of.
The advantage as stated above of using the challenger transmission is that there would be A LOT less csutom work needed, not only bringing the install time down but the cost as well.
we were looking at well over 7 grand to install a 727 with overdrive and that was just an estimate on install and fab time.
I guess it will all depend on what the factory parts would cost. But then again they are factory parts and most come with a 1 year 10k mile warranty.

Did you hear at the end he says get the SRT with the 6 speed and the limited slip....I didn't know they were making a limited slip a factory option now?

The small block 727 needs no new belhousing, the bolt pattern on the back of our blocks is the same.
You do need a different flex plate though, and it is available.
So it looks like a crossmember, a driveshaft, perhaps some tunnel work, a way to make the kickdown linkage work and just about any aftermarket auto-trans shifter.
Oh yea and a timy bit of computer work...

Crossmember is machinable, driveshaft is easily sourceable. Tunnel work is what scares me. Dave @ B&G believes he can get around the computer issues.

LSD is standard on all 6-spd cars. It is not an option on the automatic cars.

As of yesterday several Challenger R/T manuals and Challenger SRT8 manuals have hit D1 status (you can check the unofficial dodge challenger registry) -- obliterating any rumors about lack of parts/problems/etc. They're on their way -- and soon!
