View Full Version : I asked about a tune. WTF? A Super Charger now?
Captain J

Ok so I made a visit to MPI http://mpi-ferrari.com/ to ask about tuning a new Lamborghini I have not even ordered yet and guess what? They tell me they have a guy who will do a custom tune on the Charger in another building. So in the car I go expecting to get a custom tune.
What happened? I asked about the possibility of getting a cam and one thing leads to another. Now I am getting a Pro Charger installed. How the hell did that happen?
(FYI I also got a flat tire on the way home and had to empty a can of that fix a flat crap into it. Now I need new tires, a probably a sensor, and the inside of my rim cleaned.)
This was the most expensive question I ever asked! LOL :) Anyway I will probably have to come back on and ask a bunch of noob questions when I get the work done.

The 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder is to replace the pos 2007 997TT that replaced the bigger pos 2007 911GT that replaced the 1995 F355 Spider. Ferrari is out of the picture for good now (They want OVER MSRP for everything and that is BS). Porsche is out because there clicking, clanking, turbo lagging, constantly out of specification cars are junk.
(I may not be able to get the Spyder and get a hard top. I am having a hard time even getting that the way I want it.)
Anyway back on topic. This guy at MPI is a good sales men. I did not plan on spending allot on this car but It was hard to beat his point. Why spend a bunch of money on mods that do not really deliver noticeable HP for the money. The Super Charger is safe and the best bang for the buck. (As was the Predator). I guess id did not make much since for me to nickel and dime the car. Save up extra money here to get a little part, then wait until I had spare money to get this other little part. It all adds up. I spent 8000.00 on mods for my ford before it was all over and only got about 50hp more out of the car. Most of the money went into little trinkets that did nothing but look nice but gave no real HP. Might as well go the more inexpensive rout, in the long run, and just get a SC of some kind. The only reason I was nickle and dimeing the car is it is a daily driver and I did not want to put more into the thing then it was worth. (But like everyone else around here I always do.)

If this is about why a ex-military Captain and ex-cop has money it is because of the contract work I did. I worked some very lucrative contracts in Afghanistan, Kosovo, Iraq, and somewhere in Africa. I saved and invested my money the entire 6 years. Now I have that, my pension, and the money I get from my restaurant, and my paycheck to spend. The only jobs I have to hand out are minimum wage.
If anyone is interested in that kind of life and you are qualified for an opening go to, Blackwater USA, Triple Canopy, Nemesis, Custerbattles, CACI, and Dyncorp. I will tell you right now to only do it a year. It is not worth it.
If you have any questions please PM me.
Back on topic. You guys like the pro charger? I have seen threads go back and forth on what is the best SC. I have a daily driver that will NEVER see a track. It is a car I use every day and it has to be dependable.

Need a new Building say 10-20,000SF to house your toys? Give me a call. Concrete Tilt-Up, walls standing in 7wks from certified building pad. :)
Never mind, you are near Neenah, WI. I thought you were in CA with that resume. "Disregard my last".

I've heard good things about the Vortech. I also saw how sweet it looks on the Speedfactory Daytona that was at the Shindig. Personally, I'd rather go with a Merc SL63 AMG and save a lot of $$ over the Gallardo, but that's me.

I was NEVER a Mercenary. Mercenaries work for foreign governments. The closest was when I worked sort of directly for the Iraqi interim government. But even then I had a US Military GS-15 ID card and FEC card so that really should not count. I love my country and it is the ONLY country I would work for.
I am going with the Lambo because I am mad at the Germans. Also a friend of mine is getting one as well and we thought it would be more fun to work on the same cars.
What SC is the closest to a OEM type? Something I can use every day with out a belt slipping or fluid leaking? I need something that will not need any maintenance. I just want to put it in and forget about it. Not have to tinker with it all the time or have to tune all the time because it gets out of specs and makes the car run bad.

You're mad at the germans? Well, don't let that stop you. As americans we should all be mad at the japanese for Pearl Harbor, yet I own a Toyota. Besides, the Charger has a large quantity of Mercedes parts. If you're looking for driveability I would definitely lean towards Vortech. Check out Speedfactory's website. They have these cars set up so good, they sell them off the showroom of Landmark Dodge with full warranty. Plus their Daytona ran in the high 10's at the Shindig(on drag radials). Or contact Injected Engineering( a supporting vendor) who can give you more info since they're the ones who set up the Speedfactory cars.

Sounding more and more like Vortech is the way to go.
Well Lambo is now owned by Audi so a little German tech will find its way into your Italian car... and that's probably a good thing ;)

I like Ferrari, even tough you have to tear the entire motor down once a year if you actually drive it like you should (Road America). The problem is the dealers here think they can charge what ever they want. I am not paying more then sticker price for ANY car.
Porsche, I have had three now, have all been a big let down. They are junk as far as I am concerned. My Dodge is far superior to any Porsche on the road as far as I am concerned. Right from the factory all mine had problems. They all spent more time in the dealership then on the road. They also perform like crap compared to the other cars I have driven. The ass end is all over the road, they do not stick, and even with a tune and mods the turbo lag is horrendous. I hate them. I have not had much experience with other German cars but they have had three chances on vehicles that all cost well over 100k and they can not get them right. If I spend that kind of cash on a vehicle I expect it to be perfect.
Lambo will be a new thing for me. I have liked the ones I have driven so far so am going to give them a chance.
What I really want is a McLarin F1 but they are hard to find in my price range. They also have no warranty. The other option was the Saleen S7 (I do not know anyone with one so I cant drive it first) or the Ford GT (not at all interested).
FYI: The place I am having my Charger worked on had a real 1970 AAR Cuda. Restored from the ground up. Bone stock or NOS parts. Too bad it belonged to someone else :( They also have a Ferrari for sale but it cost more then it did new, I guess it is collectible, so that is out of the question.

Have you considered the Nissan GT-R? A good friend ditched his 997TT, and just received his GT-R. He commented that it is faster, easier to drive, and not to mention a whole lot cheaper, (albeit he has some pull with the Nissan dealer and was able to get it at sticker). An F-430 was also considered, but the Nissan won out. I know the GT-R may not have the status of the Lamborghini, but it is a fantastic performing car in it's own right.

I am going with the smaller Pro Charger. Mostly because it is self contained and will not deliver the high levels of boost and power that may lead to more premature engine ware. I am sure any SC will cause my engine to ware prematurely.

Well again look at the Vortech v3..self contained no tapping the oil pan. 5.5-6.0 lbs of boost. Air/water intercooler. Gains of 125+ rwhp and never have to mess with! I have over 3500 miles and no problems. Also congrats on being able to do what you have done to be able to have that money! God Bless our troops.

Once I got to crawl around a LP640 for a bit helping someone run some wires for some new toys and then got to tinker in teh same way with an f430 I have to say the build quality was ( to me ) night and day between them, the f430 was way better put together. Unless I win a lottery i will never own eighter, and given your personal experance ( too bad about the Porsches ) I would think you might give MB AMG car a go.
Good luck and have fun with it !

Delivery is May of 09 for the Lambo. I want to take it to a meet but do not want the miles on it and the paint chips from the road. (I may just drive it anyway.) Anyone know the least expensive way to trailer a car or who it the most reputable company that will do so at a low cost? I already have a car cover for it so I can protect the paint if I take it someplace. I want to bring my Charger as well so I guess towing in not going to work. I was thinking of renting a truck and trailer to bring both but was thinking to may cost less to just ship it.
Also back on topic. I have had two reputable installers who have installed several super chargers tell me Pro Charger is the best I can get for what I am looking for so I am buying one of them. Now I am wondering if I should do heads, cam, and crank shaft while I am at it. I am looking for anyone who has some that they are selling (used or new at a discount).

The 640 is the Murciélago Roadster. I was not a big fan of the roadster because the lines did not look right to me. I am actually getting the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. I can not wait to try the, "Thrust Mode," everyone it talking about. So 553hp, perfect launching via F1 technology, controlled burn outs, and 204 MPH. (Too bad the car will never go over 70MPH and never see a burn out.)

You might be surprised that if you use good synthetic oil and have your car properly tuned a supercharged car will last as long as any other. I drove a Toyota 3.4l V6 with a 12 lb overdrive pully 140,000 miles no problem, still ran fine and used no oil at 140,000 miles when I traded on my Magnum. BTW my Magnum has had a few hot suppers and still tight as a tic at 144,000 mi.

Did you ever get your LP560 yet? I saw that you posted delivery would be May '09.. well, it's June now! ;) Forget this delivery nonsense and go pick her up and drive her home, it's the best part! What's this about never seeing a burnout and will never go over 70MPH? Come on, that's only the top of 2nd gear.. I was having fun with the launch control + burnouts on the drive from Ohio to California.. run her like she's made to be.. I hit 193 MPH on the main runway at Mojave Airport two weeks ago in my '08 Lamborghini Superleggera before running out of runway.. :)

i guess everyone has their prefrences but i love porche the new 911 turbo is pretty sick once you get around the electrical and computer obstacles you can definately get them to run alot harder and they handle second to none and remember your doing all this in a 6cyl competing against the rest of the exotics that all come with some huge motors. i like lambo to but i would not crap on porsche.now the skyline is just one sick ride but in looks id still go for a lambo.but if it was up to me (i know everyone is going to hate me)ill stick with my little baby my 95 supra turbo its my favorite car ever and definatley capable of handling almost anything you throw at it

True, but it has no amenities and he did not buy it to go super fast and beat everything. Plus in order to register the Ultima GTR in most states you have to build it yourself and register it as a Kit Car. Sounds like he got the right car for him since he does not plan on racing it at all.
