I don't mind publicly bitchin' when product or company falls short of what is advertised. In this case, I must give massive props to and highly recomend Mother's Clay Bar. Dude, it's freakin magic and for 15 bucks, I dang near have a brand new paint job. I had massive overspray here and there, some left by me and some by a body shop. Every particle is gone now. Every blemish short of a scratch is now gone. I was amazed.
Get it. Even if you think your paint is in groovy condition, this will make it better.
Gonna wax it tomorrow and take a picture.
Dang, this stuff rocks.

I like the Mothers better than the Zaino and it's cheaper too!

I couldn't have been happier this mornin'. I literally said "daaaaaamn" like 5 times.
awesome.
I got a little tire shiner doohicky that was supposed to keep the armor all stuff from gettin on the wheels. Dang sponge came off before goin' around one tire one time.
Can't win em all, I guess.
I'll just go back to my old cardbaord disk/mask trick and spray armor all.
Theres a cool tip for ya.... Cut a piece of cardbourd the diameter of your whhels and duct tape a little homemade handle on it or cut a hole for your finger in the middle and hold that over your wheel as ya spray armorall or the tire cleaner of your choice. Lets ya have the shiney tire look without having to clean the greasyness off your wheels.
For cars that are lowered, the foam stuff allows more control, keeping more of it off yer fenders.

i like the idea of the wheel guard when spraying the tire foam... i'm definitely going to try it...
Clay bars do wonders... they are just very time consuming, cause after claying you MUST wax...
it kinda turns into an all day affair...

After a whole bunch of pissin and moanin about getting spray or foam on my rims, I cut a 20" circle in a piece of 1/4" plywood and it worked OK. I got tired of screwing with that. I went to a Schucks auto parts, (I think it's Kragens to some of you,) and discovered TurtleWax "Wet-n-Black" tire dressing in a spray bottle. (Skip the spray part.) Also bought a gray and yellow foam applicator that's made for this job. I pour a little dressing into a bowl and dip the applicator, then run it around the tires. It leaves an awesome shine that lasts a while. I will never use sprays or foams again. Before a car show I also coat all the black plastic fender wells with the applicator. Try it. You'll like it.

I've been hearing about the clay bar thing lately and was kind of hesitant to mess with it. After hearing your shpeel about it, I feel better. I'll probably give it a shot later in the year. I take the Weetmobile in for its final buff-out on the flames this Monday. They are also going to do a total wash and wax job. Should look sweet...er
Later Dude.

Seems like you'd just be peering at like every damn day.
These dudes sound like straight up cats. They did some fine art work and sound like they are really cool with follow up and fullfillment. Top notch right there, man.
far out, solid and right on
I clayed my WRX and was amazed, I have yet to do the Magnum as it is an all day project (and the Magnum is a bit more car than the WRX :P

I concur grinner - I use Mother's clay bar and it came out great. I don't know if I got a full 3 laps around the car like th box says... but there's a lot of surface area, so I let it slide.
It is an afternoon eater, that's for sure. I didn't wash again before waxing however - is that recommended? I figure with all lime in our water down here, I'm better off not doing that.

I've got the Mother's Clay Bar, and I was planning on doing the job soon. Any advice on the best way to do this? I've heard, "the more lubricant the better" (which is good advice in all aspects of life). Other than that, any other important things to consider? I'm nervous about scuffing the finish.

Keep the surface cool, out of the sun, wash it with Dawn dish washing soap to strip all the previous wax off. Use lots of detailing spray, don't worry too much about the bar sticking, you just kneed it some and go back and pick the tracks up.

Hey Grinner,
Can ya answer a couple of questions for me? I just got my clay bar and was wondering if you used the spray lubricant that came with it? Also, what did you put on the car afterwards? I've got the Maguiers 3 step system, and was thinking that I could start with step 2 (polish) after I clayed and washed it. What did you use to get that mondo shine going on there?

I used the spray that came with the kit to keep it weet for the bar (which is a wad of clay, actually beacuase you knead it as you need to) and I used the wax that came in the kit to wax it with afterward. I'm sure any of your favorite waxes would offer the same results after ya do the bar thang.
It feels better than it looks. Smoothest paint job I have ever touched.

Well your's just turned out fantastic, I simply wouldn't believe the reflective qualities of black paint had I not seen your pic. Guess I'll start early Saturday morn to not take too much time away from the family.

I hear ya.
It'll take an hour or two for the clay bar and another hour or two for a prpper wax.
I made it a 2 dat event so I didn't miss any family activity.
Not sure thats suggested as waqxing right after the bar is recomended but then, I'm a rebel like that.
