Ok one of my best friends boyfriend is looking into buying a charger. I have driven the 3.5 and of course my 5.7. The question is how good or bad is the 2.7 litre? Can it get out of its own way? Just wanted to pass the info on to him. I also invited him to check the forums out not sure if he will. I just dont want him to regret any decision he makes on engine wise.

If he can afford it tell him to at least get the 3.5.The 2.7 will do the job but it's a bit underpowered for the weight of the car.

Ditto what ^^he^^ said. My Mom has an 06 2.7 Charger. It's fine for her (she's 79) but he should at least look into a 3.5. (but I'd recommend he get a 6.1 )

My thoughts exactly Dave. I am partial to the 300's, but the are realitively the same. Just have him test drive them all. When I got my first 300 I test drove the 2.7 and felt very under powered. I would say nothing less than the 3.5. Then again he could say screw it and go with the 6.1...lol :)

Well you should mention they dont make any upgrades for the 2.7L. So if he wants after markets for the engine there are none. So tell him to get at least a 3.5L if he is worried about gas. But if he isnt go for the 6.1

190 Crank HP isn't much for moving the weight for these cars. It's really up to the driver but I would suspect that if the driver is under 80 yrs old, he may want to at least step up to the 250 HP 3.5 litre.
If he is looking for good gas mileage, my previous 5.7L (with Mopar headers, CAI & Borla cat back) was getting 28 MPG, when I lived in Florida.

A couple of years ago I drove a rental 300 with the 2.7, it was adequate but I do think the 3.5 is a better choice.
