I talked to the owner of a dealership today and asked why the Magnum SRT-8 hasn't shown up in their order system yet even though they were going into production on 5/17.

He told me that the reason is that the DMs will be deciding which car goes to which dealer and that they won't be able to spcify anything in particular on the cars for a while. I will be getting the first one in and he is going to call and ask his DM to send a black one if possible but I don't really get much more in terms of choice!

I really hope I get Nav, Sirius, and uconnect!!!

dantodd,

I spoke with my dealer yesterday. He says he thinks ordering will open up around May 11th. Let's hope he's right.

That story about DMs deciding about the cars seems a little far fetched to me...

Well, since mfg. starts May 17th it's hard to believe that they won't take orders until the 11th but it is certainly possible.

I could kind of believe this - the dealer is wanting to get some (one) on the lot. They probably feel that they will get one more quickly than if they special order one.

Mine was the first on the lot where I bought it and they tried to hold up the deal until they got another Magnum in ( I told them where to stuff that idea), they need the product to draw in the sales. Aside from that when a limited production car is being distributed to the dealers quite often the dealers with the best track record get the good stuff first, the rest is trickle down.

I also talked to my dealer and he said that it would be about mid May to order, but they won't be around till about the end of June...I check with him every week. He also just told me that the SRT8 will only get about 13 mpg on the hwy and about 8 in the city, it does not have the Multiport System like the 5.1 Hemi......It is strickly a performance car(that also goes for the 300).

MDS= Multi Displacment System.

So those of you that have the SRT8, whats you feeling on the car (besides absolute uphoria).

This is a random post for this thread but I'm curious how my magnum will stand up against an SRT8? I'm installing Headers next week and I've got a Borla CB! Dyno #'s show the headers and exhaust at 50lb of TQ and 25 hp at the wheel. That means Approximatly 65lb of TQ and 32 HP in the crank (at 30% for loss in tranny) so the raw number would be about 455 lbs of TQ and 372 HP! More TQ but significantly less HP, plus I think the SRT8 has a lower geared rear end!

lbstone... if what you were saying is true... that you have 455 lb/ft of torque... from what i read in some other posts, isn't it true that our tranny can only deal with 427 lb/ft of torque... something along those lines?

poundstone. is that 30% loss estimated or is it calculated from pre-mod measurements assuming 340/390 stock? Most folks I've heard discuss it suggest 20% loss for auto. The only measurements I've seen of an SRT-8 (300C) worked out to 20% drivetrain loss assuming the car generated 425hp stock at the crank brand new.

Do the math, most stockers here are dynoing around 285 rwhp out of the rated 340 hp.

So that puts it right around 16% loss. Pretty good for an automatic tranny.

I haven't really kept track of R/T dynos but IF the engines are exactly at spec then this is a very respectable number.
