Guy I just want to be on the safe side here. Im taking a road trip with the family in about two weeks. Yesterday my engine light came on. it threw the code P0455. I seen that code is the following: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Leak Detected. I changed the gas cap the day before to the locking ones. That same day it started to rain cats and dogs and i was driving in it (no choice). so i swapped the original back and later on in the day the light went off. was that the actual issue or should i take the car to the dealer. I dont want to get stuck on the road with 2 kids and a pregnant wife going from NY to FL lol. Any advice will be helpful.

Yes, the gas cap was most likely the problem.

One of the first things to do when the CEL comes on is to remove and replace the gas cap.
Looks like you have natural ability!!!
Enjoy your trip!

unless it was the specified mopar locking gas cap, it would definitely leak. i have yet to see an aftermarket locking cap actually seal correctly. perhaps it was not properly specified for this application.

i got a P0456 which is a "minor" emissions system leak.
your code is slightly different and may not be considered minor(which is actually the word that the code description uses, when i check it with diablo)
my problem was that i was fueling up with gas. turning my cap for ONE click and going.
i started turning it like for 10 clicks and then going.... after clearing the code it hasnt come back, and previously i had cleared it like 3 times and it kept coming back using the same old habit.
either way, youre fine to drive cross country if needed :) being that you have swapped gas caps and the like, its virtually impossible that is any other part of your fuel system with a leak.
