June 2008 Photo Contest - "At the Water's Edge"

Congratulations to Fondy, last month's winner (http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=115790)!

This month's theme will be: At the Water's Edge
Submission Deadline: Monday, June 23rd.

Go take some photographs of your car near a water feature of any sort. It could be a river, a lake, a waterfall, a town fountain, or a busted fire hydrant. Garden hoses in your driveway are a stretch, but whatcha got?

Here's the rules, folks (they've changed slightly from last month):

1) One entry per member, per contest.
2) Member must take photo.
3) Member's LX must be in the photo.
4) Photograph must be taken for this contest - no previous shots allowed.
5) Photoshopping is not allowed except for modifying the license plate, brightness and contrast, and crop/resize.
6) Maximum size - 800 x 600. Oversize photos will not be allowed. Resizing available if needed.
7) The winner will be responsible for deciding upon the theme of the following month's contest, and is not eligible to participate in that contest.
8) [-]Due to the software limitations, the voting poll can be no larger than 20 entries; therefore only the first 20 submissions will be able to be included.[/-] EDIT: This limitation has been removed.


Submissions should be posted to THIS thread, any time through Monday, June 23rd. Submissions posted elsewhere will not be counted.

Voting will last until Thursday, June 26th, and will begin on a separate thread as soon as the submission deadline passes.

So get out your camera, and go find some water! Let's see what you can come up with.

EDIT: Since the 20 entry limit has been removed, we'll do two voting threads - a quick one to narrow it down to four or five entries, then a final runoff for the winner.

Thanks, but I was actually thinking more along the line of shoot at a water tower and take some photos of it taking a leak on my car... shhhh, no one steal my idea. lol

I'm getting tired of Arizona scenery, we need an urban theme so we can shoot more photos with the homeless again ;)

LOL im glad to see some of you are getting ideas for this theme. goodluck to everyone. if this contest grows Jr we may need to ask the site for a larger voting system. LOL or I think what they did for the one really big contest was after it ended they took the photos to some NON-forum member and narrowed it down for the main vote. with anything we shall see how this one goes.

One possible way to vote, if the number of entires gets to be more than 20, would be to have multiple voting threads, with the top finishers moved into a final voting thread. So if there are 30 entries, 2 threads of 15, with the top 10 from each. Not the most elegant solution, but a way for all participants to have a chance of being voted on.

While you were getting this shot I was getting smoked by hail 10 miles away. The blankets did the trick, no dents. We should get together for next months contest. I have some supper secret spots in the TC for shooting cars. You like camera, I like cameras, You LXs, I Like LXs.

Maybe get the Frozen North Together and do some shooting.

OK, I'm gonna have to step in here and put my hat on (I need a hat). I don't want this contest to devolve into the Photoshop forensics hour, no offense to anyone who raised objections - I think it's valid to cry foul if you think it's warranted, but let's back off until the OP can respond.

StPaulGuru, can you post a pic or two from the set that will validate the evening? i.e, similar shots.

If so, I'm going to let it stand, and clean up the thread with a few deletions - I don't want these threads to be about that. I'll clean up the one from earlier today also.

So words to the wise on all sides:

1) Take multiple shots when you're shooting - they go a long way for establishing validity.
2) If you submit a shot that looks like it might be photoshopped, even if it's not, be prepared to get called out.
3) Do feel free to raise objections when you think it's warranted, but be prepared to have those posts deleted when a ruling is made (whichever way it's made). I think that's best.
4) In the end, it's an honor system contest - if a poster says it's a true shot, I'm going to lean that way unless there's substantial proof to the contrary, and I hope we don't spend too much time trying to find that proof.

And nobody forget, it's a friendly photo contest - it ain't like there's high stakes here. If there are things worth cheating on, this isn't one of 'em.

and like Jr. is saying this is just a bragin rights contest. there should be no need for anyone to cheat with photoshop. each month as we get more and better submissions we will all learn as we go. along with the bragin rights and the winners thread. if the winner so chooses It would be cool to learn how the shot was taken, and what camara options they used.

this is a learning process for all involved.

Hey, it's all good, when I was taking the shots, I was pretty happy with myself. Not faked, but choosing to name it "Hazman" was probably in poor taste, but it looked a lot like his work. I'll start a new thread with a bunch from last night. When I've got that one up, I'll update this post to include the link. One last thing, if that was photoshopped, try telling that to my shoes, that $#!t was deep!

Thanks Junior for keeping us all honest and playing "moderator" here (it's a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it).
It's fun and a huge challenge to go back to "old school" and try to capture that perfect shot without any "help". We're all so quick to think...."oh I can just crop that out or clone brush to cover this..." but it takes an eye and real effort to do it right the first time! Keep it up gang and good luck to all!

It's a good point, and you're right. Maybe a quick runoff and take the top four finishers for the final? We had plenty of time last month to do that, and it would mean one more thread (clutter), but not too terrible. If we need it.
