How many on here have either seriously considered (as in shopping around) or already gotten rid of their LX strictly because of the gas price issues?

No, but I'll probably be trading in my 2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ on a used Escape hybrid this Fall if things don't change. The 5.7L HEMI gets better mileage than my Jeep. :)

They will have to peel the HEMI out of my cold, dead hand.

Drive, then drink.

LOL .... love it! That's the same way I feel! Any time I think of how much gas is costing me, I think of how much and econo car would cost! Even if it's a used one, I'd still have to buy gas, insurance, perform service work, etc. So I just look at it as ... how far can I drive what I have on $10,000 worth of gas!

Naa, I'm driving my Magnum more and my Ram less. Ram has been averaging 17.5 mpg and the Magnum 22-23 mpg. I'll never go back to a tiny humped- up econobox. Life's to short to subject myself to a tiny car.

My Honda Accord V6 got 24mpg, my Hemi gets 22. That in itself is a no-brainer.....

Actually, I'm considering trying to take advantage of the high gas prices to get a 2009 Challenger RT at a good bargin to use for my daily driver.

The Dakota R/T being my daily driver, at $5.00 a gallon, I will spend $400 a month in gas, at 13 MPG. If I bought some 4 cyl. sh!tbox that I could stand to drive, but got double the mileage, it would be a wash. My payments would double, and insurance would remain about the same.
No point in it for me, I would rather drive the Dak. :racing:
The Magnum is reserved for nice days and probably will only see maybe 2000 miles a year. I could have that sitting in the garage, or a street bike, or a quad, or a boat, or.... well, you get the idea.

I never plan on getting rid of my MSRT... but then again the wife and I still have 20 other cars to choose from. I don't drive mine in the rain or at night because of the bugs. (It's an 06 with 3300 miles) We always keep six on the road and switch up when we get bored... LOL.

Lol - that's what my wife said yesterday. "I guess saving $10 on a tank of gas is worth more to people than their safety".
I love my big ass Hemi with side curtain airbags (;)) and I will never get rid of it.
If gas was 2.50/gallon I would save a whopping $20 per week. BFD. With the trade-off in amenities and sheer fun and coolness (not to mention safety and security for my family and myself), it would make zero sense.

I'm selling the 15 mpg Dodge 2500 Van and keeping the Magnum - no matter what.

Good one there. Easy to forget that sometimes. 4300lbs of protection is worth quite a bit!

I am PROUD of all of you guys! NEVER, NO WAY... you have to love it. I am the same way... the is AMERICA, I'll burn as much darn gas as I want.. the Hemi is never going away... I am going to be buried with it so I can drive through the gates of hell smoking the tires! It wont go much higher guys.. be patient, the market just wont support more than about $5 or $6 bucks per gallon. YOU CAN HELP by voting for government officials that want to drill for our OWN oil to increase the supply and bring them down... do it!

Just eat out less often. You will save gas going to the restaurant and save money eating at home. We went to the Cheesecake Factory the other day for dinner. It was $101.00 before tip.

I'll drive less more than likely or ride my motorcycle but I'll never get rid of it because of the cost of gas.

Don't really worry about gas price much .. Hate the current prices of it but I know people sure we all do that will drive across town out of thier way because the gas is a cent or two cheaper (CAN sold by Liter not the Gal) not realising they burned twice the money save in gas to get there or thier time to get there.
As far as swapping cars for gas prices.. Not a chance!! If anything the next one for me will be an 07 RT Mag if not an 07 SRT.. Sorry not a big fan of the remodel on the 08's ..

Im not saying I wont go get me a used rice burner for my daily driver...(work, ect) but on the weekends and going out with the woman in my life....Hemi is comming out. Im like most of us I guess...dont like the high price of fuel, but when people ask me why I baught a car that can only run premium fuel and synthetic motor oil..I just say this..."you have to pay to play, if I just wanted transportation I would have baught a Honda." and to be honest i waist more money doing stupid crap than I do buying fuel...Rick

I drive some 70 miles a day to and from work, with a five star crash rating it doesn't get much safer. This is one of the reasons why I sold my econ-o-ride, a sxt dodge neon for the; larger, safer, roomier, sportier, comfortable and powerful, well you get the idea charger.
They will have to peel the HEMI out of my cold, dead hand.
Roger that!
Beside, if you look at the value or depreciation of your ride, the tax and additional payments and fee's of a new car, it will take years for you to recoup the savings in gas. Why bother...life is short drive what you want!

Good question. If you could get a fair price, sure. But I put $50 in and drive a whole heck of a lot less and it is working out fine. I was one of the drivers that would just go for a 50 mile ride for no reason. One thing for sure no matter what kind of car you buy, gas is still $4.00 a gallon.
