May 2008 Photo Contest - "On the Open Road"

Well folks, what we have here is the first in a series of Monthly Photo Contests! Thanks to everybody who offered suggestions on how to set it up!

This month's theme will be: On the Open Road
Submission Deadline: Monday, May 19th

Go take some photographs of your car on an otherwise empty road. It could be in the middle of Downtown, or the middle of nowhere, just so long as the road is empty.

Here's the rules, folks:

1) One entry per member, per contest.
2) Member must take photo.
3) Member's LX must be in the photo.
4) Photograph must be taken for this contest - no previous shots allowed.
5) Photoshopping is not allowed except for modifying the license plate, brightness and contrast, and crop/resize.
6) Maximum size - 800 x 600. Oversize photos will not be allowed. Resizing available if needed.
7) Thumbnail links to photos greater than 800 x 600 will not be allowed.
8) The winner will be responsible for deciding upon the theme of the following month's contest, and is not eligible to participate in that contest.

Submissions should be posted to THIS thread, any time through Monday, May 19th. Submissions posted elsewhere will not be counted.

Voting will last one week, and will begin on a separate thread as soon as the submission deadline passes.

So get out your camera, and go find a road! Let's see what you can come up with.

Early morning? Or find someplace by the tracks, maybe. Some back alley would work too. Could be a neighborhood, whatever. Doesn't need to be any particular kind of road, as far as I'm concerned. Hope that helps get some ideas going.

Thanks dude. Glass and exposure and spending to much damn money ;). Back before I had the "L" lenses the images needed so much more contrast and color corrections. I was also using a Heliopan polarizer. Heliopan and B+W make some great optical grade glass filters. Some of the other more popular brands (Tiffen, Hoya) are a lot cheaper, but they use plastics with way to many coating that end up jacking up the color more than helping it.

Well, this is the best "open road" I could find locally, although you can see the road running in between the trees in the distance.. It's nothing near as open as the other pictures submitted, but here is some more Canadian content.
BTW!!!! Those other pictures sure are sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

I hate to do it (and I mean I HATE to do it), especially to a guy I like, who submitted a GORGEOUS shot - but I think in fairness to everybody who participated, this one doesn't meet the criteria. No road to be seen, and that was the ONLY requirement (well, that and the road was supposed to be empty).

Amazingly, (well not actually since there are about 100 a day) I was listening to one blowing through that crossing as I was reading your post.

thanks for the comments about my photo, I took that on mothers day. was on my way to a show (that didnt happen) so I took time to get some shots with the car clean. I have some other good ones from that road that I will share later after the contest is over.

The road is seven hills road. I will have to video tape a run down the road its a rollercoaster of hills I was scared stoping at the top to get some of the shots. the other reason I went here for the shots was the wind farm we have a few poping up here now I want a closer shot with one. thats another contest. LOL

Hey Junior-don't feel bad about having to play the "moderator" for this contest. Someone's gotta do it, it was your creation to begin with and rules are rules. In the next few months, everyone will "catch-on" and there won't be these "new-type" issues to address.

Besides, even though Wellsy's photo does not qualify for this contest, that shot is absolutely beautiful and they should be proud! (Heck, I almost want to print it out and hang it on MY wall!)
