Whats up my fellow lx'ers, i ran into a little problem. A friend of mines sold me his wheels at a good price, because he is moving out of the country. I installed the wheels on the rear with no problem, but when i installed them on the front, the wheels were hitting the control arm. The wheels have a offset of 35 which is wrong for rwd chargers, but i want to know if anybody out their have any suggestions. The wheels are 20x9, 35mm offset, and i tried using 5mm wheels spacers, but it still wasn't enough clearance.

mine cleared the control arm with 3mm spacers and they were 22x10. check around see if anyone would grind the control arm for you. i could not find anyone to do mine and i still want to so i can take out the spacers.

Get bigger spacers I guess, or ideally sell the wheels and buy a set with the right specs for your car!!! Anything wider than like a 10mm spacer and you should probably get longer wheel studs too.
I'd sooner walk than drive a car with a chunk ground out of a control arm.... you'd be introducing a HUGE stress concentration point that could frankly dump your wheel if you hit the wrong pothole.... not a good option IMHO.

I would buy the right wheels...I have seen some bad pics of wheel spacers going bad....IMO.

I guess the price wasn't right if the wheel doesn't fit.

Stock offset for a RWD is 18, right? So like 20mm? Or am I doing that math wrong? I get confused between backspacing and offset.

If a 10mm, spacer doesn't help, I would'nt bother. I would never recommend using a spacer larger than a 10mm.

Take a grinder to the control arm... you can take off about 3mm (1/8") with no problem. Then when you are done paint it back and then put the 5mm spacers back on and it should be ok...

I misread your first post. Your car is a RWD, Right? There is no way these are gonna work. Get your money back or sell them.

Many people have done this in 2005 and 2006 and they have never had anytype of issues or problems. Plus just removing 3mm is not that much at all.

AWD wheels are not designed to work on RWD. Get the proper wheels. The tires will work on the proper wheels.

Sound like he sold you AWD wheelsets. You've got wheels I could use on MY car. Sell the wheels and use the money to buy some that fit. NEVER cut a control arm!!!!

Maybe Noid was thinking of the control arm bolt...?

People have grinded those down as well, but I was talking about the arms.
People who bought SRT8 wheels in the beginning and putting them on RT's or SXT's were grinding down the upper arm so that they wouldn't rub. People didn't want to use spacers...

I have seen the control arms break on these cars.....grinding it down is not the right way to solve this problem...it is a cheap, unsafe, and half a$$ idea...:roll:DO IT THE RIGHT WAY and feel better about it in the long run...IMO:thumbs_u:

OK post pics of the wheels. If they are cool to someone here that has an AWD then you might be able to deal with someone here and get yourself some other rims. AWD owners are always looking for a nice set of rims to fit our LX's

I had a buddy with same type problem, ground the control arm (just enough to clear it) and have been driving it on michigan roads like that for a couple years with no problem

is a suspension failure followed by a nasty accident really worth the risk of having pretty wheels?
