View Full Version : Modded AWD? pix?
Hi,
I'm about to buy an awd mag. The awd option is needed around here in Quebec city with the average of one snow storm each week. But I got the impression that's it's kinda difficult to mod an awd? Didn't found any nice 22'' over tirerack. Please prove wrong with some pictures of your modded awd. Please, if possible, provide the name and brand of your ''drop'' setup and wheels.
Can you run a staggered setup on an AWD? or this can break the transfercase?
thx!!

Check out the vendors at this forum for the rims most of them have pretty good deals. I think most people are running 20". It would be possible to run stagered in width, but you would have to find tires that are exactly the same diameter. If you are 1/10 of an inch off in diameter the tire will be off by 3 revolution in a mile. in other words In your front tires are 0.1" smaller in diameter then the rear tires, the front tires will turn three more times then the rear in 1 mile, drive 10 mile that will be 30 extra revs.

Here's pics of my old AWD dropped on KW V2s. The wheels were Boyd Coddington JYDs 20x8.5 wrapped in Nitto 420s 255/45. I sold the wheels to a member here after I traded it in.

Difficult modding an AWD???
News to me.
You didn't here that on this forum I hope.
There's alot of modded AWD's here.
I've been able to put any mod I've wanted to on mine so far. It hasn't limited me at all. My wallet has though.
22"s...........not good choice if you plan on running those tires in the snow.
Most tires you find in that size will not be constructed of a decent compound to get you around in the white stuff. Run the stockers in the winter and the 20, 22's in the summer.
Here's mine with the 20's.

This is before I painted my calipers and added drilled / slotted rotors but it is one of the best pics I have.
Lowered with KW V2 Coilovers, 20" Concept Neeper wheels, 255/45/20 Nitto 420s Tires.

I will say that modding the AWD is a bit more difficult, maybe a bit pricier.. Can't use Long tube headers, lowering options and wheels are limited (though much LESS now than when I did mine). Nobody makes any aftermarket sway bars for them, etc... BUT, in the end, I still love my AWD, and am very happy with the decision to buy it!

Well after May Pedders might have sways that will work. The rears are the same (for the Charger anyway) and they are working on making a sway bar for the front.
Well don't tell the old wack I said this. But Darthvader has one sweet ride. I tried for a quick pic, but no luck.

That he does. Let's hope he doesn't find this thread. Otherwise, I'll have to claim that someone hacked my user account and wrote this! :)

That forum memeber was ME !!! Thanks again HOPS !!!! I'm getting ready as we speak to bring those wheels out of storage for another year of use (showing off) !
My Maggie looks exactly like HOPS', except I have the RK Sport Hood, Side Wings and Rear Spoiler, and dropped it 1.5 ". Easy to do ! Zoomers cat-back and flashpak as well....car hauls a**, handles like it's in rails and looks awesome....
Good luck...Have fun !!!

I have an SXT/AWD Charger, see list below for mods! Mostly the usual "stuff" that will fit any Charger... and I'm "patiently" waiting for Rob and the guys at Pedders to finish working their magic on the front end of an AWD LX car! Don't have 20's yet... but I'm seriously eyeing the Sport Edition KV5's.

Well just to let you all know my car was the Pedders Test car for the AWD and I have a complete system in the back and a few components in the front. So I have a unique situation to where I feel how each reacts. Meaning the front springs and shocks are stock and i have a pedders in the back ... Night and day difference and I could tell ten minuites after I picked up the car. Even called Rob and told them to tell pedders to hurry up so i can get the complete system.

For AWD suspension... you are limited to KW Variant V2's... (which I haven't gotten around to yet) There are less wheels out there, but there are enough... ;)
Here is my AWD...

They are the correct bolt pattern and backspacing for AWD. I've had no fitment problems... no spacers or anything.
They are heavy though.
Got em from HHP....

Cragar doesnt list a 5x115 bolt pattern 20" wheel with big-enough offset to fit the AWD ... but they do list 5x114.3 sizes that would fit with correct offset ... (35mm or higher)

That's pretty sharp, Aikidoka. I'm still unsure wether or not to lower my awd since it killed so much this winter in MI.
